Finite groups--coming of age : proceedings of the Canadian Mathematical Society conference held on June 15-28, 1982, with partial support from the FCAC (Quebec) and the NSERC (Canada) by Conference on Finite Groups--Coming of Age( Book )

21 editions published between 1985 and 2012 in English and held by 328 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Moonshine : the first quarter century and beyond : proceedings of a workshop on the moonshine conjectures and vertex algebras( Book )

13 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 276 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In 1979, John Conway and Simon Norton's famous paper, 'Monstrous Moonshine', outlined the remarkable connection between the monster group M and the theory of modular functions. The search for an explanation of this phenomenon involved the development and application of diverse areas of mathematics, including (generalized) Kac-Moody algebras, vertex (operator) algebras, automorphic forms and elliptic cohomology, together with string and conformal field theory from theoretical physics. This volume consists of seventeen papers based on talks presented at a workshop held to mark the anniversary of 'Monstrous Moonshine'. Containing a mixture of expository and current research material, they illustrate its extensive impact and reflect the broad range of research activity that has stemmed from the Moonshine conjectures. Potential directions for future development are also discussed."--Provided by publisher
Proceedings on moonshine and related topics by John McKay( Book )

9 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 156 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume contains the proceedings of the Moonshine workshop held at the Centre de Recherches Mathématiques (CRM) in Montréal. A glance at the contents will reveal that the connection of some papers to Moonshine is not immediate; however, Moonshine has proved to be a very fertile area, and it does not stretch the imagination to believe that many more threads will be drawn together before we understand what is really going on. In this volume, all the classical Moonshine themes are presented, namely the Monster simple group and other finite groups, automorphic functions and forms and related c
Groups and symmetries : from Neolithic Scots to John McKay( Book )

3 editions published in 2009 in English and held by 121 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This volume contains papers presented at a conference held in April 2007 at the CRM in Montreal honouring the remarkable contributions of John McKay over four decades of research. Papers by invitees who were unable to attend the conference are also included. The papers cover a wide range of topics, including group theory, symmetries, modular functions, and geometry, with particular focus on two areas in which John McKay has made pioneering contributions: "Monstrous Moonshine" and the "McKay Correspondence". This book will be a valuable reference for graduate students and researchers interested
