Miró : the experience of seeing : late works, 1963-1981( Book )

5 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 359 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This groundbreaking publication offers a reassessment of renowned modernist Joan Miró's late-career works, created between 1963 and 1981. This body of work, almost entirely unknown in the United States, showcases Miró's exceptional ingenuity as both a painter and sculptor. Miró: The Experience of Seeing includes color illustrations of nearly 50 paintings, drawings, and sculptures that show the breadth and contrast of this body of work-from bold, colorful canvases with expressive gestures to the most minimal calligraphic markings on white fields. His sculptures made of found objects are a revelation. Comparisons between paintings and sculptures highlight startling connections between shapes and symbols that Miró; used in each medium. These mature works represent the culmination of the artist's development of an innovative and personal visual language. Engaging texts, including a contribution by noted Spanish filmmaker Pere Portabella, explain Miró's role as a political figure and his quest to speak about the most intangible subjects through the materiality of objects and the painted gesture. This important new examination of Miró's later work allows for a richer, deeper understanding of this significant modern artist's distinguished career"--
Il momento della verità = The moment of truth( Visual )

8 editions published between 2012 and 2014 in Italian and held by 250 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"[A] visceral plunge into the life of a famous torero played by real-life bullfighting legend Miguel Mateo, known as Miguelin. Charting his rise and fall with a single-minded focus on the bloody business at hand, the film is at once gritty and operatic, placing the viewer right in the thick of the ring's action, as close to death as possible. ... [T]his is a not just an electrifying drama but also a profound and moving inquiry into a violent world and it's perhaps the greatest bullfighting movie ever made."--Container

Die Stille vor Bach by Pere Portabella( Visual )

10 editions published between 2007 and 2013 in 3 languages and held by 41 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"El silencio antes de Bach is an approximation of music and its related disciplines and professions through the work of Juan [i.e. Johann] Sebastian Bach. The film is a reflection on the deep dramaturgical relations between image and music, where music is not merely a subsidiary substratum of image, but a subject of parity"--Pere Portabella website
El cochecito = The little coach by Marco Ferreri( Visual )

8 editions published between 1960 and 2008 in 3 languages and held by 37 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A black comedy about an old man who wants a motorized bicycle so he can ride through town with his crippled friends. When his family refuses to buy him a bike as well he methodically poisons his family members one by one, using their tiny legacies to finance his purchase. Strange but true: the audience's sympathy is with the elder gent in this study of aging, loneliness, neglect and rebellion
Crònica d'una mirada( Visual )

2 editions published in 2004 in Catalan and held by 37 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This award-winning, six-part documentary series uncovers the little-known history of a clandestine group of anti-Franco filmmakers operating under total secrecy in '60s and '70s Spain. Forced to choose between exile and intellectual annihilation, these filmmakers instead expressed themselves, putting their art into the service of a political movement that altered the course of Spanish history. Their saga, nearly lost to oblivion along with their films, provides crucial witness to the end of the Franco era while simultaneously revealing a bold and formally innovative period in Spanish Cinema."--Distributor's website

Cuadecuc vampir( Visual )

4 editions published between 2006 and 2017 in 3 languages and held by 10 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The lush, high-contrast cinematography evokes deteriorating prints of Nosferatu and Vampyr, and the extraordinary soundtrack by composer Carles Santos intersperses the sounds of jet planes, drills, muzak and sinister electronic music all of which ingeniously locate Dracula and our perceptions of him in the contemporary world. Moving back and forth between Franco's film with Dracula as an implicit stand-in for the generalization and poetic production details, Portabello offers witty reflections on the powerful monopolies of both dictators and commercial cinema. This was filmed on the set of Jess Franco's 1970 cult film Count Dracula starring Christopher Lee. This video mixes making-of footage with an investigation of the figure of the vampire

Cuadecuc = mpir by Pere Portabella( Visual )

1 edition published in 2013 in Spanish and held by 8 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

4 editions published in 2017 in Spanish and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
