Baseball Americana symposium collection( )

in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Collection of digital video recordings, digital photographs, a miniature Louisville Slugger baseball bat, and print materials from a symposium, Baseball Americana, which was held on October 2 and 3, 2009 at the Library of Congress. The American Folklife Center symposium was coordinated with the Library's Publishing Office release of the book, Baseball Americana: Treasures from the Library of Congress (2009). The symposium examined baseball from a number of perspectives, particularly the viewpoints of people who experience the game at home (via TV, radio and newspapers), in the stands (as spectators, vendors and musicians), and on the field (as players and coaches). Speakers included former players, others who make their living through the game (including a stadium organist and a head groundskeeper), and experts on baseball cuisine, the language of baseball, and baseball memorabilia. The symposium program included lecture presentations, discussions, a keynote lecture given by Paul Dickson, the presentation of the Library of Congress Living Legend Award to Ernie Banks, an exhibit of baseball-related items from the Library's collections (including rare and historically significant baseball cards, photographs, and sheet music), and a special presentation from the Library's motion picture archives of American baseball as featured in movies
