10 editions published between 2009 and 2013 in English and held by 166 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Larry Weber has made an important contribution to helping any leader understand how to manage and protect reputation in a digital world. The influences on reputation have spun out of control, and this book is a highly actionable approach to move from reacting to managing one of every organization's most important assets." 'Michael E. Porter, Bishop William Lawrence University Professor, Harvard Business School "In Sticks and Stones, Larry Weber presents a compelling look at the challenges of protecting corporate reputation in a world where company information can cross borders and gain momentum in an instant via the Internet. Drawing on his keen eye for communications trends, Larry offers practical advice for navigating this ever-changing environment. Corporate leaders would be wise to embrace his counsel." 'Ron Sargent, Chairman and CEO, Staples, Inc. "Businesses no longer control their brands. At best, they can influence the communities of constituents who debate, shape, and refine their definition of what the brand means to them. Marketers and business executives can tap into these conversations to form incredibly rich and lasting bonds or allow themselves to be rolled by them. Larry Weber understood this dynamic long before most commu-nications thought leaders. In Sticks and Stones, he delivers not only bountiful examples of the best and worst practices in reputation management, but also practical advice that any leader can use to understand and shape reputation in this complex new world. This is a must-read book for the modern marketer." 'Paul Gillin, author, The New Influencers and Secrets of Social Media Marketing "In today's interconnected world of social networking, 24/7 blogging and Twitter, a company's livelihood relies, in large measure, on its ability to build a reputable online presence. Sticks and Stones is a must-read for any leader in business, academia, or politics who wants to achieve and maintain a 21st-century, online competitive advantage." 'Deborah Wince-Smith, President, Council on Competitiveness

Fairfax County Schools Social Studies Skills Evaluation Project1976-1977 by Larry Weber( Book )

3 editions published in 1977 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Virginia sponsored four evaluation projects during the 1976-1977 academic year. Four city school districts conducted projects to upgrade social studies skills of their students. This guide explains the conduct of that project in Chesterfield County Public Schools. Experimental and control groups were established at grades 7-8, grades 9-10, and grades 11-12. Although pretests were administered to both groups, only the experimental group received the results of their tests. Instructions were given to teachers on how to use the results for diagnostic purposes. The following 10 social studies skills were identified: determining central issues, drawing inferences, interpreting c;rtoons, reding tabular data, interpreting graphs, identifying time relationships, classifying information, reading ballots, recognizing points of view, and validating sources. The experimental groups did not exhibit superiority over the control groups. Although the conclusion reached in this project indicates lack of efficacy for using tests for feedback to increase skills, the outcome did indicate need for an instructional program fostering such skills. Copies of pre- and posttests for each of the three levels, instructions, answer keys, and item analysis are provided in the appendix. (Author/SH)

Alexandria City Public Schools Social Studies Evaluation Project 1977-1978 [and Roanoke City Schools, Chesterfield County Fublic Schools, andFairfax County Schools Social Studies Evaluation Projects, 1977-1978] by Larry Weber( Book )

1 edition published in 1978 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A project to upgrade knowledge and skills of junior high school students in American history was conducted in four cities and counties in Virginia during 1977-78. The hypothesis was that students who received feedback from teachers regarding performance on an American history pre-test would perform better on a subsequent American history test. History skills being measured included ability to recognize famous leaders and political systems, read maps and graphs, identify time relationships, interpret written sources, and demonstrate knowledge of major periods of U.S. history. For the study, more than 2,500 students were assigned to experimental groups (receiving feedback from teachers) and control groups (no feedback). They were administered an American history pre-test in the fall of 1977. Tests were scored and results compiled in group data. Teachers of students in the experimental groups reviewed test results with their students. In May 1978, all students were post-tested in American history knowledge and skills. Findings indicated that students in all experimental groups showed improvement gains in more areas between pre- and posttests than did students in control groups. The conclusion is that feedback from teachers helps students achieve modestly higher test scores. Copies of pre- and posttests and answer keys are included in the appendices. (Author/DB)
