D-branes by Clifford V Johnson( )

25 editions published between 2002 and 2010 in English and held by 1,729 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A self-contained and pedagogical introduction to D-branes, their theory and applications. Covering the basics as well as advanced applications, this book will be suitable as a textbook for graduate courses and also a valuable reference for researchers. There is no other book devoted to the technology of D-branes
The dialogues : conversations about the nature of the universe by Clifford V Johnson( Book )

6 editions published between 2017 and 2018 in English and held by 285 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"In this graphic book/novel, readers eavesdrop on conversations about contemporary science and learn about how scientists uncover the secrets of the universe. Topics in the book range from black holes, to the multiverse, to string theory, to food science. The book is structured as a set of 9 conversations in 11 chapters. The people in the conversations include non-experts and experts in physics, both adults and children, both male and female. These characters are fictional. The locations are in cities around the world, in cafes, train stations, on the street, buses, museums, libraries. The book is, uniquely for this subject matter, a fully graphic book. A graphic novel, but NOT science fiction. The science is real, and often concerns research topics that have been highlighted in general-interest media outlets"--

Professor and physicist Clifford Johnson was born on March 5, 1968 in London, England. He earned his B.S. degree from Imperial College of London University in 1989 and his Ph.D. degree from University of Southampton in 1992. Johnson conducted research at the Institute for Advanced Study and Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics at University of California, Santa Barbara. His research interests included quantum gravity, black holes, gauge theory, and M-theory. During the Second “Superstring Revolution” of the 1990s, Johnson published key papers on D-branes, a critical concept in the field of super-string theory that allowed for further advancements in theoretical physics. After serving as a professor at University of Durham, Johnson joined the faculty of University of Southern California in 2003. He was a science consultant for TV, radio and theater. In 2005, he was identified as the most highly cited black mathematician by the Journal of Blacks in Higher Education

Johnnas Peter Rasmus Johnsen aka John Peter Rasmus Johnson, son of Johnnas Christensen (b. 1795) and Anne Dorothea Janassen Poder, was born in 1824 in Lindvid, Vejle, Denmark. He married Karen Marie Nielsen Toft (1823-1890), daughter of Niels Hansen Toft and Ane Larsen, in 1847. They had ten children. He died in 1910 in Provo, Utah
D-branes (Cambridge monographs on mathematical physics) by Clifford V Johnson( Book )

1 edition published in 2003 in Undetermined and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

D-branes represent a key theoretical tool in the understanding of strongly coupled superstring theory and M-theory. They have led to many striking discoveries, including the precise microphysics underlying the thermodynamic behaviour of certain black holes, and remarkable holographic dualities between large-N gauge theories and gravity. This book provides a self-contained introduction to the technology of D-branes, presenting the recent developments and ideas in a pedagogical manner. It is suitable for use as a textbook in graduate courses on modern string theory and theoretical particle physics, and will also be an indispensable reference for seasoned practitioners. The introductory material is developed by first starting with the main features of string theory needed to get rapidly to grips with D-branes, uncovering further aspects while actually working with D-branes. Many advanced applications are covered, with discussions of open problems which could form the basis for new avenues of research
Residence for Mrs McLeod [44] Brinsley Rd [i.e. Road] Camberwell by Albion Henry Walkley( Visual )

1 edition published in 1915 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

WD/HOU/7/1, the contact drawing, with plan, front and side elevations and cross section, shows a single storey timber and stucco house at 44 Brinsley Road Camberwell, with half timbered gable roof, L-shaped verandah with side entrance and a stepped facade. The sitting room has an angled bay window and corner fireplace. There are three bedrooms off a central passage and hall, a separate dining room, a kitchen and pantry and a laundry off the back verandah. WD/HOU/9/1 plan shows a verandah around three sides of the sitting room; WD/HOU/9/2 a more modest proposal with no separate dining room
Atmospheric refraction considerations for the 150-foot paraboloidal antenna at sugar grove by P. F Nicholson( Book )

2 editions published in 1965 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Analyses of weather data collected over the past few years at Sugar Grove, West Virginia show that certain simplifications are valid when computing radio refraction angles. An approximation to the classical equation for tropospheric refraction is cited which requires only the local surface weather conditions. Using the Sugar Grove environment, it is demonstrated that the above approximation will yield refraction predictions accurate to within a few seconds of arc for elevation angles greater than 10 degrees and will maintain an accuracy better than 10 percent for elevations as low as five degrees. It is also shown that diurnal variations in refraction at Sugar Grove are relatively small in winter and that suitable mean values can be established. In addition, maximum and minimum bending are given for selected elevation angles based on all 1962 Sugar Grove weather data. Finally, the predicted values of refraction are compared to the main beam pattern of a 150-foot antenna. (Author)
