Sentaro ist Besitzer eines kleinen Imbisses in Tokio, in dem er mit süsser Bohnenpaste gefüllte Dorayaki-Pfannkuchen verkauft. Eines schönen Tages steht die alte Tokue vor seinem Laden und bewirbt sich spontan um die von Sentaro ausgeschriebene Aushilfsstelle. Der lehnt zunächst mehrfach ab, doch als sie ihm schliesslich eine Kostprobe von ihrer selbst gemachten Bohnenpaste da lässt, ändert der davon begeisterte Sentaro seine Meinung und stellt die etwas sonderbare Frau ein. Schnell macht die Nachricht von Sentaros neuen köstlichen Pfannkuchen die Runde, woraufhin die Kunden bei ihm Schlange stehen. Währenddessen entwickelt sich zwischen ihm und Tokue eine ganz besondere Freundschaft. Doch schon bald stellt sich heraus, dass die alte Dame ein Geheimnis hütet, das alles aufs Spiel setzen könnte.
