Multistage Estimation of Dynamical and Colored Noise States in Continuous-Time Linear Systems( Book )

1 edition published in 1977 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This paper extends Friedland's bias estimation technique to the problem of estimating dynamical states and colored noise states. An exact multistage decomposition is derived not only for the state estimation equations, but also for the associated error covariance equations. Additionally, a second-order suboptimal multistage estimator is derived using a perturbation technique. Whereas a high-order matrix Riccati equation must be solved when the exact results are used, a matrix Riccati equation, of the dimension of the colored noise states, must be solved when the suboptimal results are used
Henry D. Washburn letter by Henry Dana Washburn( )

1 edition published in 1865 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The collection contains one letter written in Savannah, Georgia, dated February 1, 1865. In the letter, Col. Washburn recommends Dr. James K. Bigelow, surgeon with the 8th Indiana Infantry Veteran Volunteers, for brevet promotion. Dr. Bigelow entered the service on April 23rd, 1861, and served three months in Western Virginia. Col. Washburn has known Dr. Bigelow since August 1861. Dr. Bigelow served in the battles of Pea Ridge, Port Gibson, Champion Hill, Black River Bridge, Vicksburg, Jackson (Mississippi), Fisher's Hill and Cedar Creek, Virginia. Washburn noted Dr. Bigelow's "attainments as a Surgeon are excellent."
State Space Models of Lossless Layered Media( Book )

1 edition published in 1977 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This paper develops time-domain state space models for lossless layered media which are described by the wave equation and boundary conditions. Our models are for non-equal one-way travel times; hence, they are more general than existing models of layered media which are usually for layers of equal one-way travel times. Full state models, which involve 2K states for a K-layer media system, as well as half-state models, which involve only K states are developed and related. Certain transfer functions, which appear in the geophysics literature in connection with models of layered media with equal travel times, are generalized to the situation of non equal travel times. Our state space models represent a new class of equations, causal functional equations, some of whose properties and approaches to simulation are discussed
Multistage Estimation of Bias States in Linear Systems( Book )

1 edition published in 1977 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

This paper provides an alternate, constructive derivation of Friedland's method (Ref 1) for recursive bias filtering; and, extends his method to the case where we may wish to increase (or decrease) the number of biases. We show that it is possible to add (or delete) bias states in such a manner that previously computed quantities can be used to obtain new estimates of the dynamical state vector and the now-larger bias vector. Adding (or deleting) bias states is important when, for example, the bias states are used to model constant, but unknown, instrumentation error sources, of which there can be a large number. (Author)
Minimum-Variance State Estimation for Uniform Causal Functional Equations( Book )

1 edition published in 1978 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Recently, a new class of time-domain state space models has been developed to describe layered media systems. When layers are uniform, the resulting state equations are referred to as uniform casual functional equations. In this paper we develop the minimum-variance state estimator for such equations. We are led to a natural form of parallel data processing for practical implementation of our estimator. (Author)
