"In 1974, John P. "Jack" Murtha became the ?rst Vietnam combat veteran elected to Congress. Joint Synthetic Battlespace Desert Pivot Experiment (JDPE)( Book )

2 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The goal of the Joint Synthetic Battlespace Experiment (JDPE) is to prove the underlying concept of the Joint Synthetic Battlespace (JSB) in the context of the warfighters, i.e., USAF operational users. The JSB has been conceptualized and prototyped to support the transforming USAF into a capability oriented standard, such as Global Strike Task Forces (GSTF), rather than the current weapon platform centric. The new capability can only be realized by synergistic integration of existing and new weapons/C2/ISR systems. JSB plans on being the very tool for CONOP development, R & D, acquisition, training, mission planning, rehearsal, and even disposal of component systems in the future USAF. Initially, JSB was focused on supporting new weapon/C2/ISR system conceptualization, development, and acquisition. The next application domain is USAF operational use. Air Combat Command's (ACC) Tactical Air Command and Control Simulation Facility (TACCSF) conducts a quarterly Desert Pivot (DP) exercise in conjunction with Red Flag of Nellis AFB. The first JSB Experiment, which is called JDPE Event 1, was conducted during DP 03-01 in October 2002. This paper discusses the JDPE architecture and the details of the JDPE Event 1
Joint Synthetic Battlespace (JSB) Technology and Infrastructure Consideration( Book )

2 editions published in 2003 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Creating all components from scratch is impractical for the Joint Synthetic Battlespace (JSB) due to the huge scope that JSB needs to cover. Spanning training, acquisition, test and evaluation, and research and development, JSB supports the DoD from the detailed engineering level, entity level, mission level, to the operational and strategic levels, while supporting community users. Thus, the JSB must leverage all existing investments to the fullest extent possible. It is expected that existing simulations cannot cover some of the JSB space even though all the existing components are fully integrated under the JSB infrastructure. The missing pieces will need to be created to achieve the goal and vision of the JSB. The JSB will therefore be a combination of legacy simulations and the newly created JSB components in future. This paper discusses the JSB component integration framework that facilitates integration of the existing legacy simulation systems as well as one of the new JSB components, the JSB Common Synthetic Environment (JSB CSE). It also presents the on-going High Performance Computing (HPC) applications of the JSB as its computing infrastructure

Review of the President's Fiscal Year 2009 budget request for the Defense Health Program's Private Sector Care Budget Activity Group : [letter to Daniel Inouye, Chairman, Ted Stevens, Ranking Member, Subcommittee on Defense, Committee on Appropriations, United States Senate ; John P. Murtha, Chairman, C.W. Bill Young, Ranking Member, Subcommittee on Defense, Committee on Appropriations, House of Representatives by Denise M Fantone( Book )

1 edition published in 2008 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The Conference Report accompanying the Fiscal Year 2008 Department of Defense Appropriations bill directed us to review the President's fiscal year 2009 budget request for the Defense Health Program's Private Sector Care BAG. To do this, we reviewed (1) DOD's justification for the request for the Private Sector Care BAG, including the underlying estimates and the extent to which DOD considered historical information; and (2) changes between this request and the request for fiscal year 2008 and factors causing these changes. To conduct our work, we analyzed the methodologies that DOD used to develop the budget requests for the Private Sector Care BAG in fiscal years 2008 and 2009. We also interviewed officials and analyzed documents from DOD's Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) and TRICARE Management Activity, which were the offices responsible for developing budget requests for the Private Sector Care BAG. We also relied on prior GAO work, particularly past work in which we analyzed DOD's projected savings from planned increases in beneficiary cost sharing. In addition, we reviewed budget and obligation data related to the Defense Health Program but we did not validate these data. We have raised concerns about the quality of DOD's financial data in previous reports. However, we determined that these data were sufficiently reliable to understand DOD's budget formulation process and the underlying assumptions used to develop the President's budget request
The hunny bunny : a memoir : a young girl's life with a congenital heart defect by John P Murtha( Book )

1 edition published in 2017 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"Doctors diagnosed Jack Murtha's first child with a severe form of a rare heart defect within an hour of her birth. For the next ten months, Jack and his wife cared and advocated for their daughter as she fought unsuccessfully for her life. Supporters often told Jack, "I can't imagine what it's like to have such a sick baby." This book is his answer. With candor and wit, Jack vividly describes harrowing crises, miraculous recoveries, and the often monotonous existence of caring for a critically ill child. Despite a difficult and brutal road, the joy of the exquisite good times far exceeds the sadness."--Page [4] of cover
