The making of Michigan : [Michigan's Murphy : portrait of a supreme court justice] by Sidney Fine( Recording )

2 editions published in 1986 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

University of Michigan Professor of History Sidney Fine and others speakers discuss Michigan Governor and U.S. Supreme Court Justice W. Francis (Frank) Murphy and his importance to Michigan and the country. Fine suggests that the many high offices Murphy held make him one of the most accomplished citizens Michigan has ever produced and reveals that Murphy had presidential ambitions and didn{u2019}t really want to be a Supreme Court Justice. Fine also describes Murphy{u2019}s conduct on the Court, his temperament, and his decision making ability. Former Michigan Governor and Michigan Supreme Court Justice John Swainson and Detroit College of Law Professor Harold Norris comment on Fine's remarks. Swainson calls Murphy an egalitarian and a judge with a heart and Norris says that Murphy brought experience as well as knowledge to the application of the law. Suzanne Kaplan, Executive Director of the Michigan Council for the Humanities, welcomes attendees and introduces Fine. Part of the Michigan Public Radio Series, "The Making of Michigan."
