The Jesse F. McDonald collection [1924-1941] consists of papers and correspondence related to McDonald's mineral business and personal life. McDonald is best known as Governor of Colorado (1905-1907). Prior to his term as governor, he worked as a mine surveyor in Leadville, Colorado, and eventually became mayor of that city. With his connections to the mining industry, McDonald acquired numerous mine properties, especially in the Leadville area. As governor, he was also involved with promotion of the mineral industries in Colorado. Mine property materials include patents, reports, maps, and operating documents. Administrative materials include correspondence and documents on the activities of organizations such as the State Mineral Resources Board and the Colorado Geological Survey. The collection also includes materials on McDonald's local real estate properties, investments and financial dealings, and miscellaneous biographical and personal papers. McDonald received an honorary degree from Colorado School of Mines in 1906. The Colorado State Archives holds a collection of McDonald's papers focusing on his term as governor of Colorado
