The Rough guide to yodel( Recording )

1 edition published in 2006 in German and held by 130 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Yodeling is one of those styles about which many people have developed strong opinions while having heard relatively little of it. But with his fabulous track selections and engaging liner notes, compiler Bart Plantenga is more than equal to the task of opening ears and minds. Launching with an actual yodeling lesson from Cathy Fink, the album travels on to 17 ports of call, ranging from the western U.S. to the Swiss Alps, Africa, Mongolia, and Mexico. Somewhere amid all the excitement, the livestock gets called, Indian Bollywood musicals are further embellished (as if they needed it!), and the counter-claims of divorcing Cameroonian pygmies sorted out. And the personnel involved are far more varied than might be expected. Certainly, there are the usual Alpine field recordings, complete with chiming cowbells, but Alpendub Vs. the Man Cable's spooky, synth-and-beats-laden "Jaga Ode (Dubtronik)," hippie icon Ed Sanders's hilarious "Yodeling Robot," Gillian Welch's suitably enervated "Morphine," and Shelley Hirsch and David Weinstein's oddly church-like "Haiku Lingo" are bound to raise eyebrows as well as consciousnesses. Ultimately, although certain tracks will inevitably be hauled out strictly as parlor oddities, others will become firm favorites due to their startling beauty and/or delightful strangeness."--Amazon.com

Voices features singers whose virtuosity demonstrates the astonishing variety, power and beauty of the human voice. The artists were all recorded under studio conditions in the atmospheric setting of the Romanesque Abbey of Payerne

In the heart of the light : the night of the prima donnas( Visual )

1 edition published in 2002 in German and held by 26 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

An exceptional concert featuring not less than twelve female singers coming from around the globe to perform in the stunning greek theatre of Taormina, in Sicily. Ideally located in front of the sea, with a splendid view over the Etna, the greek theatre of Taormina is one of Sicily's milestones. Every summer, concerts and other performances still take place in this uncomparable set. In 2001, 12 renowned divas of song from all over the world gathered for the "Festival of the Last Prima Donnas." This festival celebrated the talents of American soprano Jessye Norman, the "Voice of America" Ami Koita, Dee Dee Bridgewater, regarded as the "new Ella Fitzgerald," Israeli pop singer Noa and her Palestinian counterpart Amal Murkus, as well as Esma Reszepova, known as the "Edith Piaf of the Gypsies," and Neapolitan singer Lina Sastri "the incarnation of Italy's songs."

3 editions published in 2007 in 3 languages and held by 9 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"For two years, in 2005 and 2006, Sainkho lived in Ireland. She was struck by similarities between these two countries and especially by stone sculptures from Boa Island and Tuva. She was also struck by mysteries of Ireland where old traditions blend with modern computer technology. Tuva-Irish Live Music Project has been developing for two years. Roy Carroll plays the computer and both musicians programme electronics in such a way that compositions sound in an entirely new way each time they are performed live"--Label website (www.leorecords.com)
