Transducer variability study by Jon H Friedl( Book )

2 editions published in 2007 in English and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The goals of this study was 1) to develop a set of portable measurement protocols that could be readily be applied at different installations to quantify key operating characteristics of phased array transducers, and 2) to use those protocols to assess the differences in characteristics of nominally identical transducers

Advanced guidance and control : operational and safety benefits by Mohamed Eladl( Book )

2 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

"This project originally titled "Assessment of Operational and Safety Benefits of Functionally Integrated Flight Guidance and Control" was retitled "Advanced Guidance and Control-Operational and Safety Benefits" with the funding participants in mind (FAA, Honeywell, Gulfstream, and Smiths Aerospace) and with the goal of emphasizing the benefits that would accrue to these participants (government and industry). The project launched with multiple objectives, one of which included evaluating the suitability and effectiveness of this technology compared to a more traditional control scheme. Of particular interest was the ease of reuse and the associated performance achievable with the generic design when applied to an actual production program. The generic Total Energy Control System (TECS) outer loop design was evaluated for reuse and robustness without customizing the TECS outer loop design to achieve optimum performance. Instead, a test of the TECS was chosen in which the outer loop design of a traditional autoflight system was replaced with the TECS outer loop design. Very few adjustments were made to the Federal Aviation Administration-provided generic TECS outer loop design. No modifications were made for compatibility of the inner loop and outer loop designs for the hybrid system."--Page [ii]

Structure and Nanocrystallites of Ni and NiO Three Dimensional Ordered Macromeshes( Book )

1 edition published in 2001 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Three dimensional Ni and NiO inverse opal macromeshes were characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (SEM). The octahedral cubes of the macroporous Ni were found mostly grown as single crystals with staking faults and microtwins. There was no preferential growth of these cubes as determined by selected area diffraction pattern (SADP). Some NiO nanocrystals with size of about 5 nm were formed on the surface of inverse Ni opal membrane during etching away of silica spheres. The oxidation of Ni mesh turned it into NiO macromesh with grain size of about 20 nm at 550 deg C. The nanocrystalline NiO mesh is suitable for further fabrication of three dimensional nanobeads. By annealing the meshes at 650 deg C, the NiO nanograins grew to a size of over 50 nm. This three dimensional ordered macroporous structure with higher temperature treatment is considered as stable and important for further application

Human factors design of automated highway systems by Lee Levitan( Book )

1 edition published in 1998 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The objective of the Human Factors Design of Automated Highway Systems contract was to provide input during the conceptual stages of AHS development on matters of human factors concern, and thereby affect the design and implementation of the AHS and lay the foundation for future AHS advancement. Parallel analytical and experimental tracks were conducted, with intentional cross-talk among the tasks on the two tracks. This report provides a review of the products from each task. Included for each task is the objective, the methodology, and the results. In addition, answers to questions asked during a particular task and answered based on findings from later work are given in the review for the task where the question was first asked. Also, where assumptions about the AHS made earlier in the research effort were changed because of new data or an evolution in thinking about the issue, those changes are presented along with their bases. The implications of findings for the design of the AHS are presented. A section on current concepts of the AHS presents descriptions of the AHS scenarios first developed in the first task but now modified to reflect the changed assumptions and other data findings
Inspection development for nickel billet : engine titanium consortium phase II( Book )

1 edition published in 2005 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

The Engine Titanium Consortium (ETC) is comprised of Iowa State University; General Electric; Pratt & Whitney; and Honeywell Engines, Systems & Services, and its objective was to develop improved inspection methods for critical jet engine components. The ETC Phase I program focused on improved inspection of titanium (Ti) billet using zoned inspection approaches. In the current work reported here, the multizone inspection procedure and transducers used for Ti were applied to typical nickel billet, namely Inconel 718 and Waspaloy. The program goal was achieved for 5 inches and 10 inches diameter billet

Data network evaluation criteria handbook( )

1 edition published in 2009 in English and held by 0 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The purpose of this Handbook is to provide evaluation criteria to be used in the development, selection, modification, adaptation, or approval of data network technologies and components to be deployed in safety-critical aviation systems. The expected readership for this Handbook primarily includes designers of digital electronics systems that may use data networks and those who are concerned with the certification of aircraft or aircraft engines containing such systems. This Handbooks objective for providing these evaluation criteria is to facilitate the process by which data networks are employed in aviation digital electronics systems that may ultimately be certified as part of an overall aircraft or aircraft engine certification process. It focuses on identifying aspects of the technologies and component implementations that ultimately may have an adverse impact on the approval within the certification of an aircraft. Particular attention is given to issues that are generally overlooked or underappreciated in the industry. This Handbook does not constitute Federal Aviation Administration certification policy or guidance, but may be used as input to future policy and guidance
