The journal of the U.S.S. Delaware details a voyage from Portsmouth to New York, Virginia, and Cherbourg; and between locations in the Mediterranian, including Jaffa [i.e. Yafa an-Naseriyye, Israel?], Jerusalem, Gibraltar, Algiers, Leghorn [i.e. Livorno], Mahon, Naples, Malta, Tripoli, and Sicily; eventually returning to Virginia (June 1833-Mar. 1836). Master was John B. Nicolson; log keeper was William Greenleaf. It is a journal that describes wind, weather, location, sightings of ships, provisions, shipboard and port activities, sickness and death, religious activities, crew, ship dimensions, ship maintenance and repair, injuries, mail, and visits by officials, citizens, and passengers of other ships. Log is kept daily beginning in port at Mahon. Includes a description of the Castle of Seven Towers in Constantinople, songs, a description of a visit from the King of Naples, a description of Naples, poetry, and a list of ships in the U.S. Navy at the time. Some entries for 1834 are at the end of the volume
