After finitude : an essay on the necessity of contingency by Quentin Meillassoux( )

27 editions published between 2008 and 2017 in English and held by 995 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"After Finitude provides readings of the history of philosophy and sets out a critique of the unavowed fideism at the heart of post-Kantian philosophy. Author Quentin Meillassoux introduces a philosophical alternative to the forced choice between dogmatism and critique. After Finitude proposes a new alliance between philosophy and science and calls for an unequivocal halt to the creeping return of religiosity in contemporary philosophical discourse."--Jacket

Après la finitude : essai sur la nécessité de la contingence by Quentin Meillassoux( Book )

31 editions published between 2005 and 2016 in 3 languages and held by 208 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Julius von Bismarck : animals are dumb and plants are even dumber = Tiere sind dumm und Pflanzen noch viel dümmer by Julius von Bismarck( Book )

1 edition published in 2015 in German and held by 14 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This monograph is the first comprehensive publication of Julius von Bismarcks work, which has already attracted considerable notice on account of its inventiveness. The artist uses installations, videos and performances to explore peoples ability to perceive, and uses the laws of physics to challenge the way we are used to seeing things. His interdisciplinary approach involves asking questions about the world and nature in a creative way, which gradually transforms the individual. This publication includes accompanying texts that discuss some individual works and examine the questions that are central to his work as a whole. Time without becoming by Claude Meillassoux( Book )

6 editions published between 2014 and 2015 in English and Galician and held by 12 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

To use Alan Badiou's words, "It is no exaggeration to say that Quentin Meillassoux has opened up a new path in the history of philosophy." The present book, Time Without Becoming, is the text of a conference that Meillassoux gave at Middlesex University in London in May 2008. Following his seminal After Finitude, Meillassoux proceeds here to further explore his notion of absolute contingency, which is able to produce and destroy, without a reason, any becoming. In her contribution, Anna Longo challenges this idea by confronting Meillassoux's speculative materialism with emergentism

El nuevo realismo la filosofía del siglo XXI( Book )

1 edition published in 2016 in Spanish and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

So far this century has been shaping a new philosophical movement that proposes a radical change, a turn of 180 degrees with respect to what was now accepted as being in the philosophical field and in the theoretical field in general. This is what has been called the "new realism," although it has also accepted other meanings, such as new materialism, speculative materialism, speculative realism, ontological realism or neutral realism, according to the different versions that have been presented. Certainly, as with other philosophical movements, the new realism does not constitute a unified movement: it has only just begun and divergent positions have begun to emerge. However, all these positions have some basic coincidences. The new realism is shaping an emerging paradigm in the philosophical thought that comes to question - and in principle to define, that is, to delineate - the paradigm of the whole modern philosophy and its radicalization in the so-called postmodernity. Although the question of what will be the new realism is open, an already relevant acquisition of its emergence, which has in principle negative character, is that it allows us to place ourselves, perhaps for the first time, against the totality of modern philosophy in Its various variants, to specify their basic and common assumptions, and to specify fundamental critical points
