Controlled delivery systems of cellulose matrix for oxytetracycline: In vitro dissolution( )

1 edition published in 2016 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Abstract: Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) has recently been explored as a novel nanostructured system for controlled drug delivery. The present study examines the releasing behavior and antibacterial efficacy of cellulose (CC) and tempo-oxidized- microfibrillated cellulose (TO-MFC) loaded with oxytetracycline at three different physiological pH (2.1, 6.8 and 9.0). The releasing mechanism from cellulosic matrix was assessed by applying zero order, first order, and second order & Ritger-Peppas model. The well diffusion assay was carried out to investigate the antibacterial efficacy of the prepared MFCs. Results indicate that the stability for the drug loaded on TO-MFC at all the pH was significant. TO-MFC and CC both showed sustained release of OTC and followed Ritger-Peppas model signifying the diffusion process. The sustained antibacterial activities of these cellulosic matrixes were also observed. Results indicate that both drug delivery systems retained their medicinal properties against bacteria. The application of MFC could be very promising since it allows a sustained release of drug conserving long-term antibacterial efficiency. Focal points: Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) loaded with oxytetracycline at three different physiological pH (2.1, 6.8 and 9.0) was examined. The OTC and RO-MFC drug delivery system was stable at all pH. Riteger-peppas model was favourable for the drug release phenomenon signifying the diffusion process. The antibacterial activities of three matrixes appear in the similar manner as reported for releasing. Graphical abstract: Highlights: Microfibrillated cellulose loaded with OTC at three different physiological pH was examined. The OTC and RO-MFC drug delivery system was stable at all pH. Statistical analysis of the tensile strength of GFRP, CFRP and hybrid composites( )

1 edition published in 2018 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Abstract: Glass/epoxy, carbon/epoxy and hybrid (glass-carbon/epoxy) composites are subjected to quasi-static to high strain rate (542 s −1 ) studies to obtain the tensile strength. The two-parameter Weibull distribution is employed to measure the variability of the tensile strength of cross ply laminates. The Weibull parameters are obtained using the linear curve fit method. The theoretical tensile strength values are determined for the GFRP, CFRP and hybrid composites. The experimental and theoretical strength values are in good agreement. Using Hitachi scanning electron microscope instrument, the failure mechanisms are investigated in the fracture surfaces of glass/epoxy, carbon/epoxy and hybrid specimens, and discussed. Highlights: Tensile strength distribution of (0°/90°) GFRP, CFRP and hybrid composites is graphically represented. Theoretical mean tensile strength values are obtained for different strain rates ranging from 8.3×10 −3  s −1 to 542 s −1 . Scale parameter increases with the increase of strain rate. SEM studies are performed on the tested specimens
Improved methodology for design of low wind speed specific wind turbine blades( )

1 edition published in 2015 in English and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

Abstract: The majority of wind power is currently produced on high wind speed sites, and the standard design of wind turbine blades has evolved to be structurally efficient under these conditions. Recently, sites with lower quality wind resources have begun to be considered for new wind farms. This study confirms the expectation that the standard high wind speed design process results in less efficient structures when used for low wind speed conditions, and that a low wind speed specific design process is able to yield structural improvements. A comparative structural analysis of generic blades from high and low wind speed turbines quantifies the differences in structural performance between high and low wind speed blades, and indicates the ways in which the standard design process should be modified to suit a low wind speed specific design. An improved design method specifically for low wind speed blades is proposed, with more emphasis on stiffness than in the standard high wind speed design. The improved design process results in a lighter and cheaper blade than the conventionally designed one, whilst still fulfilling the design requirements
