The day after Trinity( Visual )

1 edition published in 1980 in English and held by 13 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

On 16th July 1945, the world's first atomic bomb was detonated at Trinity Site in New Mexico. Three weeks later a similar bomb was dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima. Focusing on the life and personality of J. Robert Oppenheimer, this film traces the development of the atomic bomb, from the time Oppenheimer was appointed to head the Manhattan Project, to the first successful test, to the aftermath of the weapon's use in Japan, and then to his ultimate fall from grace during the McCarthy era as he began to speak out in opposition to further development of nuclear weapons and the even more powerful hydrogen bomb. Using declassified government footage and recollections of Oppenheimer's distinguished friends and associates at Los Alamos, amongst those interviewed are Haakon Chevalier, Nobel Prize-winner Hans Bethe and Frank Oppenheimer

Documents collected by Minnesota Star-Tribune reporter Jim Dawson, for an article on Frank Oppenheimer's resignation from the University of Minnesota Department of Physics following accusations of communist involvement. The collection includes documents from Oppenheimer's personnel file at the University and correspondence with Hans Bethe, J. W. Buchta, Robert Millikan, Edward Teller, as well as students and other faculty and staff of the University
by Clifford J Durr( )

in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Approximately one-half of the Durr Papers reflect the activities of his personal life, but Durr's government activities in the Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC) are contained as well. The RFC provided loans to railraods, banks, agricultural agencies, industry, and commerce in order to help restore the economy. The collection also contains materials from 1940-1941 on an RFC subsidiary, the Defense Plant Corporation (DPC). The latter agency was created in 1940 to handle the conversion and expansion of industry to prepare for war with Germany and Japan. Materials on the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) are included for the period in which Durr served as commissioner, 1941-1948. The beginnings of education broadcasting in the U.S. is covered as is the Eugene Cox affair. The FCC regulatory policies and procedures for wartime and peace-time broadcasting are contained, as are materials related to the House Committee on Un-American Activities from 1941-1951. In the personal life and private practice series are materials related to the 1954 U.S. Senate Internal Security subcommittee hearings held in New Orleans, La., on the Southern Conference Educational Fund, which involved both Clifford and Virginia Durr, and on the civil rights movement in the South from 1954-1969. Durr served as counsel in a number of civil rights cases during that period
Beta ray spectra by Frank Oppenheimer( )

1 edition published in 1939 in Undetermined and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

NOTE: Text or symbols not renderable in plain ASCII are indicated by [...]. Abstract is included in .pdf document. In part I the various methods of determining the energy distributions of electrons are described. Reasons are given for the choice of a semi-circular focusing spectrograph. The construction of the magnet, the spectrograph box, the field measuring devices and the coincidence Geiger-Muller counters are given in considerable detail. In part II the experimental energy distributions of the [...] nuclear electrons are described. In addition the distribution of the internally converted electrons from the [...] mev gamma ray and of the secondary electrons from the gamma rays of [...] and [...] are given. The connection between the these gamma rays the complexity of the Beta spectra is discussed. In those cases where an independant estimate of the energy of the radio-active transformation is available there seems to be a discrepancy between this independent estimate and the experimental value for the end point of the continuous beta spectra. Several possible explanations of the discrepancies are discussed. In the appendix the calculations of the distribution of the interally converted electrons from the Th Pb gamma ray are given
Effizienzanalyse methodenbasierter Hardware/Software Kommunikation( )

1 edition published in 2007 in German and held by 1 WorldCat member library worldwide

<dt.>
