Der Maler Michael Zeno Diemer lebte in turbulenten Umbruchzeiten, geprägt von politischem, gesellschaftlichem und technischem Wandel und persönlichen Unsicherheiten. Er erlebte das Kaiserreich, den Ersten Weltkrieg, die Weimarer Republik und den Aufstieg des Nationalsozialismus. Nach seiner künstlerischen Ausbildung und dem Studium an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste in München spezialisierte er sich auf die Landschaftsmalerei, ab 1895 festigten zudem große Schlachtenpanoramen seinen Ruf. Kreuzfahrten in das Nordmeer und den Mittelmeerraum führten zur Entstehung von zahlreichen Marinebildern, zudem malte er ab 1906 Technik- und Wissenschaftsbilder für das Deutsche Museum in München. Der vorliegende Katalog verdeutlicht mit den zahlreichen Ölgemälden, Gouachen, Aquarellen, Grisaillen, Plakaten, Reliefkarten, Buch- und Zeitschriftenillustrationen sowie Postkarten die enorme Vielseitigkeit dieses Auftragsmalers. Diemer hielt unübersehbar den Zeitgeist des Übergangs vom 19. in das 20.
