Histamine and the art of scientific discovery ( Visual )
4 editions published in 1984 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Eighty years' research into the pharmacology of histamine and sundry reflections on the conditions most favourable to creative scientific research are presented in the form of a fictional country-house symposium gathered by Sir John Colum, featuring, among others, Paul Ehrlich, (Roy Dotrice) Sir Thomas Lewis, Sir Henry Dale, Sir James Black, Dr. Charles Code, Professor William Feldberg and Prof. Daniel Bouvet (1907-1992) - the last four appearing in person. Fascinating for its pharmacological content, but extremely artificial and contrived in its design, and occasionally verging on the grotesque in its exaggerated deference towards the Great Men of Science

Optimization of oil recovery from New Brunswick oil shale by J. W Black( Book )
1 edition published in 1992 in English and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Fast reactors (under one second residence time) tend to produce higher yields of oil from oil shale than do conventional slow reactors (one minute to four hours). These greater oil yields result from reduced coking within the shale particles and less cracking of the oil in the gas phase. An additional benefit of the fast reactors is smaller vessel size and thus capital cost savings. To confirm these assumptions, a preliminary series of tests was carried out in an ablative fast pyrolysis reactor with New Brunswick oil shale, with a temperature of 450C-650C, a residence time of 400-1100 milliseconds, a particle size of 375-850 microns, and nitrogen and hydrogen as carrier gases. The Fishcher Assay test was used to establish the oil yield that could likely be obtained from a conventional retort, not necessarily the maximum oil yield obtainable from the shale
