The start-up of you : adapt to the future, invest in yourself, and transform your career by Reid Hoffman( Book )

22 editions published between 2012 and 2013 in English and Undetermined and held by 1,592 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book is a blueprint for thriving in your job and building a career by applying the lessons of Silicon Valley's most innovative entrepreneurs. The career escalator is jammed. Unemployment is sky-high. Creative disruption is shaking every industry. Global competition for jobs is fierce. Traditional job security is a thing of the past. Here, LinkedIn cofounder and chairman along with the author show how to manage your career as if it were a start-up business: a living, breathing, growing start-up of you. Start-ups, and the entrepreneurs who run them, are nimble. They invest in themselves. They build their professional networks. They take intelligent risks. They make uncertainty and volatility work to their advantage. These are the very same skills professionals need to get ahead today. This book teaches the best practices of Silicon Valley start-ups, and how to apply these entrepreneurial strategies to your career. -- From publisher description
The alliance : managing talent in the networked age by Reid Hoffman( Book )

14 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 731 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"For most of the 20th century, the relationship between employers and employees in the developed world was all about stability and lifetime loyalty. That has recently changed, giving way to a transactional, laissez-faire approach that serves neither party well. A new arrangement is needed, the authors argue--one built on alliance (usually temporary) and reciprocity. The high-tech start-up community of Silicon Valley is pointing the way--and companies that wish to be similarly agile and entrepreneurial can learn valuable lessons from its example. Under the new compact, both employer and employee seek to add value to each other. Employees invest in the company's adaptability; the company invests in employees' employability. Hoffman (a cofounder of LinkedIn), Casnocha (a technology entrepreneur), and Yeh (an entrepreneur and angel investor) outline three simple, straightforward ways in which companies can make the new compact tangible and workable. These are (1) hiring employees for explicit "tours of duty," (2) encouraging, even subsidizing, employees' efforts to build networks outside the organization, and (3) establishing active alumni networks that will enable career-long relationships with employees after they've moved on. In the war for talent, such a compact can be a secret weapon that helps you fill your ranks with the creative, adaptive superstars who fuel entrepreneurial success"--

The meaning revolution : the power of transcendent leadership by Fred Kofman( Book )

2 editions published in 2018 in English and held by 139 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The vice president of leadership at LinkedIn claims that the biggest driver of motivation is the chance to serve a larger purpose beyond our careers and ourselves, rather than salary, benefits, bonuses, or other material incentives; companies that are able to successfully focus their people, their teams, and their culture around meaning outperform their competition. Fred Kofman's approach to leadership has little to do with the standard practices taught in business school and traditional books. Bringing together economics and business theory, communications and conflict resolution, family counseling and mindfulness mediation, Kofman argues in The Meaning Revolution that our most deep-seated, unspoken, and universal anxiety stems from our fear that our life is being wasted--that the end of life will overtake us when our song is still unsung. Material incentives--salary and benefits--account for perhaps 15 percent of employees' motivation at work. The other 85 percent is driven by a need to belong, a feeling that what we do day in and day out makes a difference, that how we spend our time on earth serves a larger purpose beyond just ourselves. Kofman claims that transcendental leaders, wherever they are in the hierarchy, are able to put aside their self-interests and help others to feel connected with others on a team or in an organization on a great mission and part of an ennobling purpose. He argues that every organization involved in work that is nonviolent and non addictive has what he calls an "immortality project" at its core. And the challenge for leaders is to identify and expand on that core, to inspire all stakeholders to take part"--
