At sea, Drake learns that one of his captains, John's brother, has been bribed by Lord Burghley to turn traitor. After a trial at sea, the traitor is convicted and hung. Returning, Elizabeth greets Drake and knights him despite Spanish outrage. When Miss Sydenham reveals that she and Drake were secretly wed before the voyage, John tries to murder Drake, but Burgley's dagger kills John instead
