Finance : the discreet regulator : how financial activities shape and transform the world by Isabelle Huault( )

14 editions published between 2011 and 2012 in English and held by 247 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The financial sector is the talk of the global village. This book highlights that, before asserting that the institutions of the financial sector deserve to be regulated, one should consider that these very institutions are themselves the discreet regulators of the markets where their activity takes place. The global financial crisis that began in the summer of 2007 has brought the financial industry to centre stage. While most current analysis focuses on the way finance can be regulated in the topical context of the economic crisis, this book aims to show how financial activities actually shape and transform the world. Highlighting that the true regulators of the economy are not only regulatory state authorities, the book demonstrates that the financial sphere really does contribute to rule-setting. It argues that actors that seem to be the objects of regulation or intervene only at its fringe are in fact 'discreet regulators' which provide the institutional framework that fosters the creation and globalization of markets. Building on a series of case studies, Finance: The Discreet Regulator highlights how public authorities and private actors jointly regulate the real world, with joint regulation being dominated by a multiplicity of financial actors, and looks at a variety of key players, who take part in the very heart of the regulatory process

Critical management studies : global voices, local accents by Christopher Grey( )

4 editions published in 2016 in English and held by 89 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Critical Management Studies (CMS) is often dated from the publication of an edited volume bearing that name (Alvesson and Willmott, 1992). In the two decades that have followed, CMS has been remarkably successful in establishing itself not just as a 'term' but as a recognizable tradition or approach. The emerging status of CMS as an overall approach has been both encouraged and marked by a growing range of handbooks, readers and textbooks. Yet the literature is dominated by writings from the UK and Scandinavia in particular, and the tendency is to treat this literature as constituting CMS. However, the meaning, practice, constraints and context of CMS vary considerably between different countries, cultures and language communities. This volume surveys fourteen various countries and regions where CMS has acquired some following and seeks to explore the different ways in which CMS is understood and the different contexts within which it operates, as well as its possible future development

Le management international by Isabelle Huault( )

1 edition published in 2010 in French and held by 33 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

2 editions published between 2008 and 2013 in English and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This dissertation explores the effects of team diversity on performance variability and its organizational consequences. First, I show that organizational theory has mostly assumed variability to be detrimental to organizations, and that it is not a common dependent variable. However, effects on performance variability matter: with increasing performance variability, extreme performance becomes more likely, and-at some point-such extremes are entirely determined by variability, making predictions based on mean effect only to be flawed. I review the consequences of this logic on various organizational theories. Second, I hypothesize that team diversity has a U-shaped effect on performance variability, with both very diverse and very homogeneous teams exhibiting high performance variability, and teams of middle-range diversity limited performance variability. The reanalysis of the performance of 35 teams engaged in a business simulation confirms those effects on performance variability measured at the team population level. It illustrates how effects on variability better predicts extreme outcomes-here finishing in the top 10% of the population-and how team diversity can have such an effect. Third, I explore team performance variability at unit level, distinguishing along-time from across-tasks variability for each team. I hypothesize that diversity increases the former and decreases the latter. A longitudinal dataset of 200 student teams performing actual group-work confirms such contradictory effects. This study identifies the two hazards-social and informational-underlying the diversity-performance relationship. This dissertation contributes to team composition literature by clarifying the various effects of diversity on performance variability. For practitioners, it identifies the low risk of mid-level diversity, from higher risk at the highest and the lowest levels of diversity, driven by organizational hazards

2 editions published in 2003 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

3 editions published between 2004 and 2008 in French and held by 3 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Trust exists when a person relies on the actions of an other person who is considered capable of meeting theirs expectations, and who acts voluntarily to this effect without abusing the situation. Thus, trust may facilitate opportunist behaviour. This theory statement allows us to respond to the following question : Can trust be viewed as a social control mechanism and a mechanism which makes opportunist behaviour easier? In order to study this question, empirical data has been collected in three consultancy firms. The principal results of the study are the following : - Members are all the more obliged to engage in vertical trust relationships when the organisation context is of a threatening nature. - As a social mechanism, trust is effective as it limits use of authority and rules to maintain coordination between actors. As a psychological mechanism, trust is efficient as it encouraging consultants to work harder

1 edition published in 2000 in French and held by 2 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
