"This captivating documentary film tells the story of the Russian all-girl punk rock band Pussy Riot, who stood up to the Russian government's human rights oppression and paid the price by being incarcerated in 2011. But rather than silencing their voices, the incident only amplified them, turning the band into a global symbol of feminist political activism, culminating in their widely seen concert at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, where band members were attacked by a group of Cossacks hired as security guards"--Container

Comradely greetings : the prison letters of Nadya and Slavoj by Nadezhda Tolokonnikova( Book )

4 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

A fascinating exchange between the punk-philosopher and the philosopher-punk "We are the rebels asking for the storm, and believing that truth is only to be found in an endless search ... Two years of prison for Pussy Riot is our tribute to a destiny that gave us sharp ears, allowing us to sound the note A when everyone else is used to hearing G flat." In an extraordinary exchange of letters, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, imprisoned for taking part in Pussy Riot's anti-Putin performance, and Slovenian philosopher Slavoj Žižek discuss artistic subversion, political activism, and the future of democracy via the ideas of Hegel, Deleuze, Nietzsche, and even Laurie Anderson. Two radicals, one in a Russian forced labor camp, the other writing to her from far outside its walls, show passionately - across linguistic and generational divides - that "there is still a common cause worth fighting for." Touching, erudite, and worldly, their correspondence unfolds with poetic urgency
Pussy Riot : a punk prayer( Visual )

4 editions published between 2013 and 2014 in Russian and English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In February 2012, five women wearing brightly coloured balaclavas rushed to the altar of a Moscow Russian Orthodox Cathedral with microphones, speakers and a guitar and launched into a "punk prayer" in protest against Putin's "excessive nationalism". Parishioners fled as security staff dragged the women from the altar, and amateur video of the incident quickly went viral, making Pussy Riot household names around the world. Filmed over the course of six months, this film tells the incredible story of three young women: Nadia, Masha and Katia. As members of the feminist art collective Pussy Riot, they performed a 40 second "punk prayer" inside Russia's main cathedral. This performance led to their arrest on charges of religious hatred and culminated in a trial that has reverberated around the world and transformed the face of Russian society forever. With unparalleled access and exclusive footage, this film looks at the real people behind their now famous colourful balaclavas. Following the bizarre and intricate twists of the trial, we observe three young women fight back against a justice system that seems impervious to logic. From their family and friends we learn what transformed these women from political activists in to modern day icons. As Nadia, Masha, and Katia defend their convictions from a cage inside the courtroom, those Pussy Riot members still at liberty plan new guerilla performances and cultivate a protest movement across the globe. Moving from farce to tragedy and back again, the film explores how political and religious forces contrived to make an example out of three young artists who stepped out of line. But with Nadia, Masha, and Katia, Russia's ruling powers got more than they bargained for. Are you a ready for a Pussy Riot?

[Publit]
