16 editions published between 2000 and 2008 in English and held by 1,115 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Published on the occasion of the artist's eightieth birthday and accompanying a major retrospective exhibition, this book brings together 120 of Thiebaud's most important paintings, watercolors, and pastels. Essays by Steven A. Nash and Adam Gopnik trace the course of his career from the 1950s, when he first began to emerge as a significant national artist. They assess Thiebaud's role in the history of American modernism and his place in the tradition of realism, and examine the surprisingly wide variety of art historical sources to which his paintings refer, including Chardin, Sargent, Hopper, Mondrian, Morandi, and Diebenkorn."--Jacket

Martín Ramírez : the last works by Brooke Davis Anderson( Book )

2 editions published in 2008 in English and held by 105 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Brooke Davis Anderson describes the moment as a "curator's dream come true." In 2007 a collection of more than 130 works on paper by Martín Ramírez surfaced, all created in the early 1960s, just before his death in 1963. Until this discovery, Ramírez's known oeuvre consisted of about 300 drawings and collages. These "last works" shine new light on an artist now revered as one of the self-taught masters of the twentieth century. Martín Ramírez (1895-1963) immigrated to the United States from his native Mexico at the age of thirty. Diagnosed with mental illness soon after, Ramírez would spend the second half of his life in mental institutions. It was at DeWitt State Hospital in Northern California that Ramírez began exhibiting a remarkable drive for artistic expression, creating drawings with any material he could find, including paper bags, wooden matchsticks, and a paste he made from saliva and mashed potatoes. Ramírez's work illuminates the struggle of an artist trapped between two worlds, blending memories of Mexico with the experience of poverty and alienation in America. As Anderson writes, "each drawing became a beguiling act of documenting and, ultimately, sharing a life lived." Martín Ramírez: The Last Works invites viewers to witness Ramírez's artistic development through his bold lines, meticulous repetition, and creative variations of idiosyncratic themes. With essays by Brooke Davis Anderson, Richard Rodriguez, and Wayne Thiebaud and a foreword by the family of Martín Ramírez, this book celebrates the genius of a once-dismissed yet truly extraordinary artist."--Publisher's description

1 edition published in 2003 in English and held by 37 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Richard Brautigan was a literary idol of the 1960sand 1970s whose comic genius and iconoclastic vision of American life caught the imagination of young people everywhere. He came to age during the Haight-Ashbury period and has been called "the last of the Beats." His early books were required reading for the hip generation, and on its publication Trout Fishing in America became an interantional bestseller. An indescribable romp, the novel is best summed up in one word: mayonnaise. This new edition includes an introduction by the poet Billy Collins, who first encountered Brautigan's work as a student in California." -- cover, p. [4]

"Famous for his lush early '60s paintings of cakes and other sweets, this retrospective of Wayne Thiebaud is the definitive book on the seminal American artist. Published on the occasion of an exhibition of the same title, Wayne Thiebaud: A Retrospective is the first major survey in twelve years of the work of one of the most original and accomplished American artists. This large-format book is a retrospective of his work from the 1960s to today, with numerous works coming from the artist's collection. Like many artists, Thiebaud has held on to some of the best examples of his work from every period. The book also includes his most recent work up to 2012--at 91, Thiebaud is still working from his studio in Sacramento. With more than ninety color illustrations, this book and the exhibition it documents--put together by noted art historian John Wilmerding--reveal the painter to be preoccupied with a larger slice of American life."--Publisher's website
