Theory of automata by Arto Salomaa( Book )

20 editions published between 1969 and 1979 in English and Undetermined and held by 443 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Theory of Automata deals with mathematical aspects of the theory of automata theory, with emphasis on the finite deterministic automaton as the basic model. All other models, such as finite non-deterministic and probabilistic automata as well as pushdown and linear bounded automata, are treated as generalizations of this basic model. The formalism chosen to describe finite deterministic automata is that of regular expressions. A detailed exposition regarding this formalism is presented by considering the algebra of regular expressions

DNA computing : new computing paradigms by Gheorghe Păun( Book )

23 editions published between 1998 and 2011 in 4 languages and held by 394 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This is the first text and monograph about DNA computing, a molecular approach that might revolutionize our thinking and ideas about computing. Although it is too soon to predict whether computer hardware is likely to change from silicon to carbon and from microchips to DNA molecules, the theoretical premises have already been studied extensively. The book starts with an introduction to DNA-related matters, the basics of biochemistry and language and computation theory, and progresses to the advanced mathematical theory of DNA computing. Apart from being well-known scientists, all three authors are known for their lucid writing. Many of their previous books have become classics in their field, and this book too is sure to follow their example

Public-key cryptography by Arto Salomaa( Book )

18 editions published between 1990 and 2011 in English and Japanese and held by 324 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Cryptography, secret writing, is probably as old as writing itself. But only recently has it become the object of extensive scientific studies. Vast new applications to data security are one explanation for this. Perhaps a more important reason for the huge growth of scientific research on cryptography is the seminal idea of public-key cryptography and the resulting new vistas on the possibilities of communication. This book gives a broad overview of public-key cryptography, covering its essence and advantages, various public-key cryptosystems and protocols. It also gives a comprehensive introduction to classical cryptography and cryptanalysis. The book is self-contained and suitable both as a text and as a reference. It starts from the beginning but also includes some 1989 developments. The presentation is in many ways new, with some new results. The treatment is rigorous but avoids unnecessary formalism. The plaintext examples in the book form a package of basic sauna knowledge

The list of contributors includes many of the well-known researchers in theoretical computer science. Most of the articles are reader-friendly and do not presuppose much knowledge of the area in question. Therefore, the book constitutes very suitable supplementary reading material for various courses and seminars in computer science
Current trends in theoretical computer science : entering the 21st century by Gheorghe Păun( Book )

12 editions published between 1993 and 2001 in English and Undetermined and held by 97 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The scientific developments at the end of the past millennium were dominated by the huge increase and diversity of disciplines with the common label "computer science". The theoretical foundations of such disciplines have become known as "theoretical computer science". This book highlights some key issues of theoretical computer science as they seem to us now, at the beginning of the new millennium. The text is based on columns and tutorials published in the "Bulletin of the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science" in the period 1995-2000. The columnists themselves selected the material they wanted for this book, and the editors had a chance to update their work. Indeed, much of the material presented here appears in a form quite different from the original. Since the presentation of most of the articles is reader-friendly and does not presuppose much knowledge of the area, the book constitutes suitable supplementary reading material for various courses in computer science

Membrane computing : 14th International Conference, CMC 2013, Chişinău, Republic of Moldova, August 20-23, 2013 : revised selected papers by Artiom Alhazov( Book )

11 editions published in 2014 in English and held by 11 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 14th International Conference on Membrane Computing, CMC 2013, held in Chişinău, Republic of Moldova, in August 2013. The 16 revised selected papers presented together with 6 invited lectures were carefully reviewed and selected from 26 papers presented at the conference. Membrane computing is an area of computer science aiming to abstract computing ideas and models from the structure and the functioning of living cells, as well as from the way the cells are organized in tissues or higher order structures. It deals with membrane systems, also called P systems, which are distributed and parallel algebraic models processing multisets of objects in a localized manner (evolution rules and evolving objects are encapsulated into compartments delimited by membranes), with an essential role played by the communication among compartments and with the environment
