The complete golfer's handbook by Gary Player( Book )

15 editions published between 1999 and 2014 in 4 languages and held by 602 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

With three Masters jackets in the closet and PGA, British, and U.S. Open trophies on the shelf, Gary Player, among golf's most genial and authoritative personalities, has a record that speaks for itself and a contagious respect for the game. All of that is on display in The Complete Golfer's Handbook, which is really less a handbook than a comprehensive introduction to golf--and it's attractive enough to leave on the coffee table. First published in Britain in 1999, the Handbook is a lushly illustrated and informative guide to golf's essentials--its history, rules, equipment, etiquette, strategies, and various forms of competition, along with some insight, given Player's second career as a course designer, into what makes a fair and challenging golf course. Good stuff, to be sure, and there's not a player anywhere, regardless of handicap, who won't pick up a nugget or two. But Player is Player; on the links he always played to his strengths, which he built through physical and mental preparation second to no one's. The Handbook offers Player himself demonstrating his quintessential warm-up system, practice drills and games, and conditioning exercises--all the routines a savvy golfer should partake in before ambling to the first tee. Following Player's physical fitness methods won't bring you a green jacket, but will certainly improve your game, outlook, flexibility, and endurance. Of course, if by some fluke you do manage to win the Masters, Player will have you so fit when you try the jacket on for size that you'll actually be able to button it. --Jeff Silverman

The big three and me by Billy Casper( Book )

1 edition published in 2012 in English and held by 83 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Billy Casper had a higher winning percentage than Arnold Palmer, he won twice as many times on the PGA Tour as Gary Player, and during his career he finished in the top twenty-five more consistently than Jack Nicklaus. And yet, when golf historians write about the legends of the game, with special attention paid to the above-listed 'Big Three, ' his name is often left out of the discussion, or is at best an afterthought. In this fascinating autobiography, Casper tells his life story, shining candid insight into the man who quietly collected fifty-one PGA Tour victories, the seventh highest total in history."--Publisher's description

The book, divided into three parts, focuses on specific scenarios and problems that arise in golf, life, and business. In the first section on golf, topics include putting, scoring, etiquette, the mental side of the game, and fitness and nutrition. In the section on life, Player, the father of six and grandfather to twenty-two, addresses issues such as parenting, who to turn to when in need of advice, and more. Finally, in the section on business, he details how to deal with competition, among other topics. Player responds to questions such as: - Golf: How do I play a bunker shot from a plugged lie? - Life: I feel like I've lost the passion for what I do. How do I get that back? - Business: When people criticize my work I take it very personally. How do you handle criticism? The 2012 recipient of the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award, Player draws from both on and off the course experiences dealing with competitors, businesspeople, and family. In doing so, he offers a unique glimpse into handling adversity with regard to these relationships. The advice that he offers is invaluable to fans of all ages"--
