Real and complex analysis by
Walter Rudin(
Book
)
164 editions published between 1960 and 2015 in 9 languages and held by 2,853 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Presents the basic techniques and theorems of analysis. This work includes a chapter on differentiation. It presents proofs of theorems and many exercises appear at the end of each chapter. It is arranged so that each chapter builds upon the other, giving students a gradual understanding of the subject

Fourier analysis on groups by
Walter Rudin(
Book
)
60 editions published between 1960 and 2013 in English and Undetermined and held by 873 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In the late 1950s, many of the more refined aspects of Fourier analysis were transferred from their original settings (the unit circle, the integers, the real line) to arbitrary locally compact abelian (LCA) groups. Rudin's book, published in 1962, was the first to give a systematic account of these developments and has come to be regarded as a classic in the field. The basic facts concerning Fourier analysis and the structure of LCA groups are proved in the opening chapters, in order to make the treatment relatively selfcontained

Function theory in the unit ball of cn by
Walter Rudin(
Book
)
41 editions published between 1980 and 2013 in English and German and held by 542 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Around 1970, an abrupt change occurred in the study of holomorphic functions of several complex variables. Sheaves vanished into the back ground, and attention was focused on integral formulas and on the "hard analysis" problems that could be attacked with them: boundary behavior, complextangential phenomena, solutions of the Jproblem with control over growth and smoothness, quantitative theorems about zerovarieties, and so on. The present book describes some of these developments in the simple setting of the unit ball of en. There are several reasons for choosing the ball for our principal stage. The ball is the prototype of two important classes of regions that have been studied in depth, namely the strictly pseudoconvex domains and the bounded symmetric ones. The presence of the second structure (i.e., the existence of a transitive group of automorphisms) makes it possible to develop the basic machinery with a minimum of fuss and bother. The principal ideas can be presented quite concretely and explicitly in the ball, and one can quickly arrive at specific theorems of obvious interest. Once one has seen these in this simple context, it should be much easier to learn the more complicated machinery (developed largely by Henkin and his coworkers) that extends them to arbitrary strictly pseudoconvex domains. In some parts of the book (for instance, in Chapters 1416) it would, however, have been unnatural to confine our attention exclusively to the ball, and no significant simplifications would have resulted from such a restriction

"Walter Rudin's memoirs should prove to be a delightful read specifically to mathematicians, but also to historians who are interested in learning about his colorful history and ancestry. Characterized by his personal style of elegance, clarity, and brevity, Rudin presents in the first part of the book his early memories about his family history, his boyhood in Vienna throughout the 1920s and 1930s, and his experiences during World War II." "Part II offers samples of his work, in which he relates where problems came from, what their solutions led to, and who else was involved."Jacket

Idempotents in group rings by
Walter Rudin(
Book
)
2 editions published in 1963 in English and held by 4 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The group generated by the support of an idempotent in a group ring is studied, both in the purely algebraic case and in the case of the group ring over a Banach Algebra. Under some conditions, this support group must be finite or even trivial. Under other conditions, there exist idempotents with infinite support or infinite support groups. (Author)
