Mario Sironi and Italian modernism : art and politics under fascism by Emily Braun( Book )

6 editions published in 2000 in English and held by 397 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book examines the work of Mario Sironi, painter, caricaturist, designer, and muralist, whose images shaped the political myths of Italian Fascism. Providing a case study of the relationship between artistic freedom and political authoritarianism during and between the world wars in Italy, Braun recounts how Sironi fashioned the Fascist regime's image in both high and low art forms, from propaganda in the press to monumental mural projects, and shows why Sironi was defended by progressive critics, and even Mussolini himself, as the consummate artist of the "Fascist Revolution." Both a monograph and cultural history, Mario Sironi and Italian Modernism charts the fate of modern art and the avant-garde project of cultural renewal under Fascism. It reveals the relationship between Fascism, myth and modernism, as well as the link between Sironi's art and postwar abstraction in Europe and America."--Jacket

L'art me semblait une chose si grande ... : correspondance, manifestes, articles by Mario Sironi( Book )

13 editions published between 1980 and 2007 in 3 languages and held by 66 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Mario Sironi : between futurism and the urban landscape, 1914-1920 : unpublished works on paper from the Estorick Collection by Estorick Collection( Book )

1 edition published in 2002 in English and held by 33 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This selection of works on paper is of particular significance since it comprises drawings from a period of the artist's activity not extensively documented in other collections. This is probably due to the fact that on his first visit to Sironi's studio in 1948 Eric Estorick acquired an immense amount of drawings, above all works dating from the 1910s and 1920s. The Foundation therefore possesses an extraordinary selection of images which both trace the creative journey of the artist during these years and confirm Estorick's deep understanding of the work of the master"--

Mario Sironi, 1885-1961 : Landschaft als Experiment by Angelika Klüpfel( Book )

2 editions published in 2017 in German and held by 23 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
