Tracey Emin : works 1963-2006 by Tracey Emin( Book )

8 editions published in 2006 in English and held by 434 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The most highly publicized of the infamous Young British Artists, Emin has stirred as much controversy as she has acclaim, being both highly personal and extremely original in her art. Emin's work is engaging, titillating, disturbing, and startlingly confessional. One of her most famous pieces is Everyone I Ever Slept With 1963-1995, a tent appliquEd with names. Another notorious work, My Bed--the scene where she spent four days contemplating suicide--was exhibited at Tate Britain when the artist was short-listed for the Turner prize in 1999. Though denounced by conservative critics at the outset, Emin's work has attracted serious critical attention for more than a decade. In the words of Art in America, "What brought Emin to prominence was shock value, but what keeps her work powerful as she continues is the strength and nuance of its form and content." Compiled in close collaboration with the artist herself--and unprecedented in its scope--this is the definitive book on Emin, featuring drawings, paintings, sculptures, appliquEs and embroideries, neon and video stills as well as her own writing."--Publisher's website

Chinati : the vision of Donald Judd by Marianne Stockebrand( Book )

7 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 399 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"The Chinati Foundation is widely considered one of the world's most important destinations for experiencing large-scale contemporary art. It was founded by Donald Judd (1928-1994), whose specific ambition was to present and preserve a select number of permanent installations that were inextricably linked to the surrounding landscape. Chinati is located on 340 acres of desert on the site of former Fort D.A. Russell in Marfa, Texas. Renovation and installation at the site began in 1979 with help from the Dia Art Foundation, and it was opened to the public in 1986. This handsome publication is the first comprehensive presentation of the Chinati Foundation's collection. The book describes hos Judd developed his ideas of the role of art and museums from the early 1960s onward, culminating in the creation of Chinati (and including its two predecessors--his building in New York and his residence in Marfa). The individual installations at Chinati are presented in chronological order with stunning photography; these include works by Carl Andre, Ingólfur Arnarsson, John Chamberlain, Dan Flavin, Roni Horn, Ilya Kabakov, Richard Long, Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, David Rabinowitch, and John Wesley, as well as by Judd himself. His installations at Marfa include 15 outdoor works in concrete and 100 aluminum pieces housed in two carefully renovated artillery sheds. The book also features writings by Judd relating to Chinati and Marfa, and a complete catalogue of the collection."--Jacket

Peter Halley : maintain speed by Peter Halley( Book )

8 editions published in 2000 in English and Undetermined and held by 296 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This project demanded that we organize vast quantities of material. The subject of this book, Peter Halley, is an artist, writer, publisher and lecturer. To grasp the multiplicity of his production, we began with 1,600 images and edited down to 550 images which we then assembled into multiple, but related, stories. In tackling this process of editing and narration, breaking down and rebuilding, we took our cue from Halley, whose own raw materials consist of conduits, cells and links. We provided a kind of compass in the form of an information bar that runs along the bottom of each page and facilitates linkage within and outside of the book and sparks interpretation by presenting views of Halley's paintings in different contexts, quotations, documentation of events and details about the plates
Donald Judd : architecture by Donald Judd( Book )

17 editions published in 2003 in English and German and held by 296 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Donald Judd was one of the leading artists of the second half of the twentieth century. His "specific objects"--Which he refused to call sculpture - represent a radical and revolutionary use of space, scale, and materials. By contrast, the primary concern in his many drafts and designs for architecture and furniture is utility, although the formal relationship to his artistic objects is plain." "All facets of Judd's work converge in Marfa, West Texas, where he systematically turned an abandoned fort into one of the world's major ensembles of contemporary art. This book uses drawings, plans, and photographs of Marfa to illustrate Judd's radical approach to architecture and design, and to demonstrate the meticulous attention he paid to the settings for his installations. Photographs of Judd's aluminum and wooden furniture series and examples of his plywood tables, chairs, and shelves display his stringent application of aesthetic brevity and precision in form and material." "First published in German in 1991, this revised and expanded edition contains additional illustrations and several essays that have not previously appeared in English. Donald Judd's original contribution, an anti-war essay written during the 1991 Gulf War, is complemented by a second essay on the relationship between art and architecture."--Jacket
