12 editions published between 1975 and 2015 in English and held by 522 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Catherine Lucille Moore (1911-1987) was one of the greatest science fiction and fantasy writers of the Twentieth Century. Writing under the name C. L. Moore, she was one of the first truly successful women writers in genre fiction, gracing the early pages of Weird Tales and Astounding Stories. First published in the 1930s and 1940s, C. L. Moore's collection of short stories embodies the otherworldly appeal of science fiction during that time, echoing America's growing fascination with space exploration and its rapidly expanding multicultural awareness. She confronted the fallacies of ethnocentrism, colonialism, and gender bias head on, reminding readers to take off the ethnocentric-colored glasses and appreciate the variety of people on our planet (and beyond) without judgment. After she met and married Henry Kuttner she almost completely stopped writing on her own, instead collaborating with him, then moving on to writing crime stories and for television in the late 1950s. By the time The Best of CL Moore was published it had been two decades since she had written science fiction. This collection is still a great introduction to what CL Moore had to offer

C. L Moore(
Book
)
14 editions published between 1952 and 2019 in English and French and held by 197 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
C.L. Moore broke new ground as one of the first female authors of science fiction, and was an undisputed pioneer of the genre. JUDGMENT NIGHT is her classic space opera, a tour-de-force from the golden age of science fiction.The Lens of Death was the most destructive weapon in the history of the cosmos. Now it will decide the fate of the Lyonese, whose galactic empire is crumbling before the assaults of a new, younger race, the H'vani. The champion of the empire and its home-world of Ericon is the daughter of the Emperor, Juille: a tall, fierce Amazon who will not see her dynasty end. But Juille could never have foreseen the twist of fate that turns her mortal enemy, the godlike H'vani warrior known as Egide, into her lover. As their races clash, the two are locked in a swirling embrace of death and lust that might end in the destruction of their peoples, the galaxy, and one another.All will be decided on Judgment Night

The 1930's heralded the arrival of C.L. Moore, one of the pioneering women writers of speculative fiction, and the appearance of fantasy's landmark female hero: Jirel of Joiry.With her red hair flowing, her yellow eyes glinting like embers, and her face streaked with blood, Jirel is strong, fearless, and driven by honor. Moore's place among legendary authors of sword and sorcery like Robert E. Howard and Edgar Rice Burroughs. From C.L. Moore, the legendary pioneer of classic sci-fi, comes the collected adventures of the iconic space outlaw, Northwest Smith.First published in Weird Tales in the early 1930s, C.L. Moore's Northwest Smith stories, especially SHAMBLEAU, were hailed as some of the most imaginative and vivid science fiction stories ever to come out of the golden age of sci-fi. At a time when women were heavily underrepresented in the genre, C.L. Moore was among the first to gain critical and popular acclaim, drawing comparisons to contemporaries like H.P. Lovecraft and Fritz Leiber.Northwest Smith, now recognized by many as the archetypal space smuggler and gunslinger, is an adventurer in the classic sense of the word, and these thirteen stories chronicle the bizarre dangers, interstellar wonders, and titillating romances that captured the imagination of a generation

First published in the pages of Weird Tales in 1934, C.L. Moore's Jirel of Joiry is the first significant female sword-and-sorcery protagonist and one of the most exciting and evocative characters the genre has ever known. Published alongside seminal works by H.P. Lovecraft and Robert E. Howard, the five classic fantasy tales included in this volume easily stand the test of time and often overshadow the storytelling power and emotional impact of stories by Moore's more famous contemporaries. A seminal work from one of fantasy's most important authors, Black God's Kiss is an essential addition to any fantasy library
