Jean Hélion (1904-1987) fut l'un des animateurs les plus actifs du mouvement abstrait. Il introduisit l'abstraction aux Etats-Unis mais il fut également le premier en 1938 à la remettre en cause. Il s'oriente ensuite dans une voie personnelle, vers un réalisme de plus en plus minutieux. Publié à l'occasion de l'exposition consacrée à l'artiste au Centre Georges Pompidou fin 2004
