Farewell to the working class : an essay on post-industrial socialism by André Gorz( Book )

21 editions published between 1980 and 1997 in English and French and held by 490 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

André Gorz argues that changes in the role of the work and labour process in the closing decades of the twentieth century have, once and for all, weakened the power of skilled industrial workers. Their place has been taken, says Gorz, by social movements such as the womenʹs movement and the green movement, and all those who refuse to accept the work ethic so fundamental to early capitalist societies. Provocative and heretical, Farewell to the Working Class is a classic study of labour and unemployment in the post-industrial world

Critique of economic reason by André Gorz( Book )

22 editions published between 1988 and 2011 in English and held by 403 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

André Gorz's earlier books -- from Ecology as Politics to Farewell to the Working Class and Paths to Paradise -- have informed and inspired the most radical currents in Green movements in Europe and America over the last two decades. In Critique of Economic Reason, he offers his fullest account to date of the terminal crisis of a system where every activity and aspiration has been subjected to the rule of the market. By carefully delineating the existential and cultural limits of economic rationality, he emphasizes the urgent need to create a society which rejects the work ethic in favor of an emancipatory ethic of free time. -- Publisher description
The traitor by André Gorz( Book )

40 editions published between 1957 and 2005 in French and English and held by 395 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Capitalism, socialism, ecology by André Gorz( Book )

24 editions published between 1994 and 2014 in English and German and held by 372 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Against the background of technological developments which have transformed the nature of work and the structure of the workforce, Gorz explores the new political agendas facing both left and right. Each is in disarray: the right, torn between the demands of capital and the 'traditional values' of its supporters, can only offer illusory solutions, while the left either capitulates to these or remains tempted by regressive, 'fundamentalist' projects inappropriate to complex modern societies

Arbeitsges. by André Gorz( Book )

13 editions published between 1989 and 2010 in German and held by 177 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The immaterial : knowledge, value and capital by André Gorz( Book )

8 editions published in 2010 in English and held by 141 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In The Immaterial, French social philosopher André Gorz (1923-2007) argues, in his finely-tuned and polemical style, that the economic boom that accelerated in the 1990s and crashed so spectacularly in 2008 was based largely on an immaterial consumption of symbols and ideas, as capitalism tried to overcome the crisis of the formally industrial regime by throwing itself into a new, so-called knowledge economy. In this, the last full-length theoretical work Gorz completed before his death, he argues instead for the creation of a true knowledge economy. This economy would be based on zero-cost exchange and pooled resources, and knowledge would be treated as humanityʹs common property. Currently, in order to exploit knowledge and turn it into capital, the capitalist enterprise privatizes specialized knowledge and claims ownership through private licenses and copyright. But as Gorz shows, the traditional foundations of such capitalist economics have begun to crumble because of the immaterial nature of this new form of product, which makes it almost impossible to measure in monetary terms. The knowledge economy, Gorz declares, is the crisis of capitalism. -- Description from http://www.amazon.co.uk (June 29, 2012.)
