"In 1944 His Majesty's Government authorized the publication of a collection of documents from the archives of the Foreign Office on British foreign policy during the period 1919-39 ... The Collection, as first planned, was divided into two Series, of which the first Series opened after the signature of the Treaty of Versailles and the second in the year 1930. In order to make available as soon as possible documents dealing with events most relevant to the outbreak of war in 1939, a third series has been added. The third Series will cover the period from the German invasion of Austria in March, 1938, to the outbreak of war. The volumes in the three Series will continue to appear concurrently."--Publisher's description (Third series, Vol. 4)

"This volume deals with the British attitude towards the Abyssinian question down to the outbreak of war between Italy and Ethiopia on October 3 1935. Chapter I shows the Foreign Office itself active in 1934 in seeking a general settlement of Anglo-Ethiopian frontier and other differences, but finding it expedient to abandon these plans after the Walwal affray of December 5 ... Chapters V to IX describe the plans for a compromise settlement which were largely initiated by Great Britain and based on a unilateral cession of territory in British Somaliland." --p. [2] of Cover

"The present volume deals with two main subjects: reparation and disarmament. The chapters on reparation continue the story told in the previous volume. Chapter I describes the postponement of the Reparation Conference proposed for January 1932; Dr. Bruning's statement of German policy and the Anglo-French discussions consequent upon this statement. Chapter II is concerned with the internal position in Germany from mid-February to mid-June, 1932, and with the fall of Dr. Bruning and the appointment of Her von Papen as Chancellor. Chapter III includes reports of forty-six private meetings and conversations held during the Lausanne Conference (June 16-July 9, 1932) ... The three chapters on disarmament cover the period from December 1930, to the adjournment of the Disarmament Conference on July 23, 1932 ... The final Chapter includes records of Anglo-French and Anglo-American conversations in March and April 1932, of private meetings between the Delegates of the United Kingdom, France, and the United States, particularly between June 18 and 30, at the Disarmament Conference, and other material concerned with the German claim to 'equality of rights'." --From publisher's description
