A los 40 años de la victoria de Vietnam sobre los EEUU hemos querido rendir un sencillo homenaje a este pueblo heroico, cuya sabiduría, fortaleza, coraje y resistencia han sido y siguen siendo ejemplo y referente para todos los revolucionarios del mundo. Madeleine Riffaud, poetisa, periodista y corresponsal de guerra, nació en Arvillers (Somme, Francia) en agosto de 1924. Se incorporó a la Resistencia francesa con 18 años bajo el nombre de Rainer, y participó en muchas acciones contra la ocupación nazi. Capturada y entregada a la Gestapo, fue torturada por los alemanes, y después por los franceses, sin que lograran que rompiera su silencio, por lo cual fue condenada a pena de muerte, a la que escapó gracias a la insurrección de París, para reincorporarse nuevamente a la lucha de la Resistencia. A partir de 1945 escribió para el diario L’Humanité, cubriendo distintas guerras, entre ellas la guerra de Argelia, en donde fue víctima de un atentado de la OAS. En cuanto se recuperó, partió para cubrir la guerra de Vietnam, viviendo en la selva codo a codo con la guerrilla del Vietcong, bajo los bombardeos americanos y relatando al mundo episodios de la guerra vividos sobre el terreno. Este es un libro escrito en primera persona, un testimonio de primera mano que nos relata, con una fina sensibilidad, cómo era la vida en la jungla y la lucha de la guerrilla para enfrentar una guerra enormemente despiadada y destructiva, en la que el pueblo de Vietnam demostró al mundo que la tecnología poco podría hacer cuando ante sí se levantaba un pueblo que tenía muy claro por qué luchaba. Este libro fue publicado por primera vez en París en 1965. La guerra de Vietnam marcó a varias generaciones. Este libro es un homenaje a los vietnamitas y también a todos los que lucharon desde sus respectivos países por acabar con esta guerra imperialista que sacudió al mundo
