The Reichstag fire trial, September 21, 1933 to December 23, 1933, was held before the Fourth penal chamber of the Supreme court of the German reich ; the accused being Marinus van der Lubbe, Ernst Torgler, Georgi Dimitroff, Blagoi Popoff and Wassil Taneff. On December 23, 1933, presiding Justice Wilhelm Bünger pronounced a verdict of guilty against van der Lubbe for high treason in the overt act of insurrectionary arson and on January 19, 1934 the condemned was sentenced to death.
