3 editions published between 2002 and 2013 in English and held by 176 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Created by Fokine to the music of Weber's Invitation to the Dance, Le Spectre de la rose is one of the choreographer's most poetic creations. With Zhanna Ayupova as the young girl who dreams that the spirit of the rose (Igor Kolb) enters her window and dances with her before disappearing with a spectacular leap, this Kirov staging recreates the original décor designed by Léon Bakst, the charm of which lies in its subtle understanding of the romantic ethos of the 1830s-1840s
The Kirov celebrates Nijinsky : Shéhérazade( Visual )

2 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 172 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Sheherazade is based on the first story of The Thousand and One Nights and danced to music by Rimsky-Korsakov. When it was first staged, with Nijinsky in the role of the Golden Slave, Mikhail Fokine's choreography of the exotic and passionate tale was a huge success. The ballet's triumph was also due to the fabulous set and costume designs of Léon Bakst. This Kirov staging recreates Bakst's designs. Svetlana Zakharova dances the title role, with Farukh Ruzimatov as the slave lover she risks all for. This live recording was made at the Théâtre du Châtelet, Paris

17 editions published between 1913 and 2011 in English and French and held by 82 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"Léon Bakst (1866-1924) was a Russian portraitist and designer who spent much of his career in Paris. This book reflects his extraordinary collaborative work with Sergei Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes as well as the dancers Ida Rubinstein and Vaslav Nijinsky. The costumes and set designs in the book demonstrate his modern yet exotic aesthetic as well as a consistently brilliant and detailed use of color. The book itself is a remarkable example of collaboration: the preface was provided by Arsène Alexandre (the art critic of the French newspaper Figaro) and the summaries for each ballet were written by Jean Cocteau (the French poet, playwright and filmmaker)
