Joseph and Samuel Crockett were probably brothers born ca. 1705 and ca. 1708 respectively in perhaps Northern Ireland. Joseph Crockett moved in 1715 to Pennsylvania where he married ca. 1730 Jane Devinney. He and his family moved ca. 1738 to Maryland and then ca. 1748 to Augusta (now Montgomery) County, Virginia. His will was probated in 1767. Samuel Crockett came to Pennsylvania in 1715 where he married Esther Thomson. They moved to Maryland ca. 1738 and then in 1748 moved to Augusta (now Wythe) County, Virginia. His will was probated in 1750

Benjamin Gist (b. 1728) was born in Lunenburg County, Virginia. He married Mary Jarrett and they had at least nine children. They lived in North and South Carolina, then moved to Tennessee. Henry Gerrard (b. 1630?) was born in England and came to Virginia sometime before 1656. He had at least three children. The surname later changed to Jarrett. Descendants of both lines live throughout the United States

William Gillespie was born ca. 1720, probably in Northern Ireland. He lived with his wife Mary in that part of Augusta County which is now part of Alleghany County, Virginia, as early as 1746. He and his family moved to Washington (now Smyth) County ca. 1780. About 1783 he and Mary moved to Pickens County, South Carolina. He died about 1802. The second Gillespie line descends from Robert Gillespie who was born ca. 1730 in Northern Ireland. He lived with his family as early as 1754 in Augusta (now Alleghany) County. In 1772 he and his family moved near the present site of Clifton Forge, Virginia. His will was probated in 1798
