Abwechselnd bezeichnete man ihn als "Monster", "verkommenes Subjekt", "Verräter", "böse", "kriminell", einen "Pornografen", einen "Teufelsanbeter" und so weiter. Andere jedoch, die ihn näher kannten und sein Werk sorgfältig studiert hatten, nannten ihn auch ein "Genie", den "Propheten des Neuen Aeons", "den größten okkulten Gelehrten" oder "ausgezeichnetsten Dichter" des Jahrhunderts. Crowley war ein Mystiker, Magier, Gelehrter, Poet, Bergsteiger und höchstwahrscheinlich auch ein echter Prophet. Ohne Zweifel wurde er zur "Legende seiner eigenen Zeit" und wird für seine vielen Talente vermutlich erst dann Anerkennung ernten, wenn wir - die weniger großen Geister - die Zeit finden werden, alles was er lehrte, zu verinnerlichen bzw. wenn sich der Welt die Gelegenheit bietet, Zugang zu seiner Vision zu finden. Ohne Zweifel - Crowley war genau jener Poser, jener Egoist, jenes enfant terrible, als das seine Rezensenten ihn oft bezeichneten. Nur weigerten sie sich - abgesehen von ein oder zwei Ausnahmen - auch nur einen einzigen der übrigen Aspekte jenes Mannes wahrzunehmen, der nicht nur ein großer Mystiker, sondern auch ein aufrichtiger, hingebungsvoller und hart arbeitender Mensch war. Die Anforderungen, die er an seine Schüler stellte, waren nicht annähernd so hart wie das, was er sich selbst abverlangte. Natürlich bot er auch Anlass zu Kritik. Auf dieselbe Weise jedoch verlangt vieles von dem, was er tat, nach Lob und Anerkennung. Es ist höchste Zeit, neue Maßstäbe anzulegen und zu einem ausgeglichenen Urteil zu gelangen. Dieses Buch sowie Das Auge im Dreieck werden als wertvolle und aufrichtige Würdigungen des wahren Aleister Crowley wohl lange Zeit gelesen werden. Man kann sie als eine auf Fakten gestützte Widerlegung der weit verbreiteten Gerüchte oder der von Nicht-Okkultisten verfassten Biographien verstehen. Wem es am notwendigen Wissen über Magie und Okkultismus mangelt, der wird Crowley niemals richtig einschätzen oder verstehen können
