Special functions
by George E Andrews
(
)
21 editions published between 1999 and 2013 in English and German and held by 1,561 WorldCat member libraries worldwide "This treatise presents an overview of special functions, focusing primarily on hypergeometric functions and the associated hypergeometric series, including Bessel functions and classical orthogonal polynomials. The basic building block of the functions studied in this book is the gamma function. In addition to relatively new work on gamma and beta functions, such as Selberg's multidimensional integrals, a number of important but relatively unknown nineteenth century results are included."BOOK JACKET. "The authors provide organizing ideas, motivation, and historical background for the study and application of some important special functions. This work can serve as a learning tool and lasting reference for students and researchers in special functions, mathematical physics, differential equations, mathematical computing, number theory, and combinatorics."Jacket

Number theory
by George E Andrews
(
Book
)
26 editions published between 1971 and 2012 in English and held by 865 WorldCat member libraries worldwide Written by a distinguished mathematician and teacher, this undergraduate text uses a combinatorial approach to accommodate both math majors and liberal arts students. Book
)
11 editions published between 2004 and 2006 in English and Japanese and held by 299 WorldCat member libraries worldwide "The aim of this introductory textbook is to provide an accessible and wideranging introduction to partitions, without requiring anything more of the reader than some familiarity with polynomials and infinite series. Many exercises are included, together with some solutions and helpful hints."BOOK JACKET
Ramanujan's lost notebook
by George E Andrews
(
)
5 editions published in 2013 in English and held by 293 WorldCat member libraries worldwide "In the spring of 1976, George Andrews of Pennsylvania State University visited the library at Trinity College, Cambridge, to examine the papers of the late G.N. Watson. Among these papers, Andrews discovered a sheaf of 138 pages in the handwriting of Srinivasa Ramanujan. This manuscript was soon designated, "Ramanujan's lost notebook." Its discovery has frequently been deemed the mathematical equivalent of finding Beethoven's tenth symphony. This volume is the fourth of five volumes that the authors plan to write on Ramanujan's lost notebook. In contrast to the first three books on Ramanujan's Lost Notebook, the fourth book does not focus on qseries. Most of the entries examined in this volume fall under the purviews of number theory and classical analysis. Several incomplete manuscripts of Ramanujan published by Narosa with the lost notebook are discussed. Three of the partial manuscripts are on diophantine approximation, and others are in classical Fourier analysis and prime number theory. Most of the entries in number theory fall under the umbrella of classical analytic number theory. Perhaps the most intriguing entries are connected with the classical, unsolved circle and divisor problems."Publisher's description

The Andrews festschrift : seventeen papers on classical number theory and combinatorics
by Dominique Foata
(
Book
)
6 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 133 WorldCat member libraries worldwide This book contains seventeen contributions made to George Andrews on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, ranging from classical number theory (the theory of partitions) to classical and algebraic combinatorics. Most of the papers were read at the 42nd session of the Sminaire Lotharingien de Combinatoire that took place at Maratea, Basilicata, in August 1998. This volume contains a long memoir on Ramanujan's Unpublished Manuscript and the Tau functions studied with a contemporary eye, together with several papers dealing with the theory of partitions. There is also a description of a maple package to deal with general qcalculus. More subjects on algebraic combinatorics are developed, especially the theory of Kostka polynomials, the ice square model, the combinatorial theory of classical numbers, a new approach to determinant calculus
