L'auteur développe les trois notions qui fondent cette philosophie religieuse : 1) la distinction entre sentiment religieux et formes religieuses; 2) l'évolution de ces formes (fétichisme-polythéisme grossier-polythéisme moral-théisme); 3) le concept de révélation progressive.
