Correspondents include DeWitt C. Peters, Carson's friend and biographer; Jason L. Collins, Governor of New Mexico Territory and Superintendent of Indian Affairs; Commissioner of Indian Affairs A. B. Greenwood; E. W. Cave, Texas Secretary of State; Brigadier General James H. Carleton; and Captain Albert W. Pfeiffer. A copy of Carson's May 4, 1862 letter to Captain W. I. L. Nicodemus regarding the discharging of Carson's men is also included in the collection. Accompanied by a newspaper clipping on Carson and related notes and essays by former owner Norma Berger.
