"This book contains a strictly refereed selection of revised full papers chosen from the papers accepted for presentation during the 11th Workshop on Abstract Data Types held jointly with the 8th COMPASS Workshop in Oslo, Norway, in September 1995. The 25 research papers included were chosen from 57 pre-selected workshop presentations; also included are six invited contributions. The volume reports the progress achieved in the area of algebraic specification since the predecessor meeting held in May 1994"--PUBLISHER'S WEBSITE
From object-orientation to formal methods : essays in memory of Ole-Johan Dahl by Olaf Owe( Book )

4 editions published in 2004 in English and held by 184 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book is dedicated to the memory of Ole-Johan Dahl who passed away in June 2002 at the age of 70, shortly after he had received, together with his colleague Kristen Nygaard, the ACM Alan M. Turing Award: "For ideas fundamental to the emergence of object-oriented programming, through their design of the programming languages Simula I and Simula 67." This Festschrift opens with a short biography and a bibliography recollecting Ole-Johan Dahl's life and work, as well as a paper he wrote entitled: "The Birth of Object-Orientation: the Simula Languages." The main part of the book consists of 14 scientific articles written by leading scientists who worked with Ole-Johan Dahl as students or colleagues. In accordance with the scope of Ole-Johan Dahl's work and the book's title, the articles are centered around object-orientation and formal methods

On the use of sybtypes in ABEL by Ole-Johan Dahl( Book )

5 editions published in 1995 in English and held by 7 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Abstract: "ABEL is a wide spectrum language developed at the University of Oslo. The applicative core of ABEL is a typed first order language with subtypes and partial functions. The paper presents a constructive fragment of the core, based on terminating generator induction. We show how subtypes can be used to augment expressiveness and strengthen syntactic controls."
On introducing higher order functions in ABEL by Ole-Johan Dahl( Book )

4 editions published between 1995 and 1996 in English and held by 6 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Abstract: "We discuss how the 1'st order specification and programming language ABEL could be extended with higher order functions. Several issues arise, related to subtyping, parameterization, strictness of generators and defined functions, and to the choice between lambda expressions and currying. The paper can be regarded as an exercise in language design: how to introduce higher order functions under the restrictions enforced by (1'st order) ABEL. A technical result is a soundness proof for covariant subtype replacement, useful when implementing data types under volume constraints imposed by computer hardware."

Generator induction in order sorted algebras by Ole-Johan Dahl( Book )

3 editions published in 1989 in English and Undetermined and held by 5 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Abstract: "Linguistic and semantic cosequences of combining the ideas of order sorted algebras (as in OBJ) and generator induction (as in LARCH) are investigated. It is found that one can gain the advantages of both, in addition to increased flexibility in defining signatures and generator bases. Our treatment also gives rise to typing control stronger in a certain sense than that of OBJ, as well as the detection of inherently inconsistent signatures."
