The second of Wagner's Germanic epic in the "Ring of the Nibelung". Siegmund seeks shelter from a raging storm at the house of Hunding whom he learns is one of his pursuers. Wotan instructs his daughter, Brunnhilde, to protect Siegmund. Later Hunding arrives and attacks Siegmund who is slain. Brunnhilde is stripped of her godhood and Wotan sends her into an enchanted sleep. He summons Loge to create a magic fire to protect Brunnhilde, and departs in sorrow
