Ouvrage accompagnant l'exposition "Dessins de Giulio Romano", présentée au musée du Louvre, Paris, du 11 octobre 2012 au 14 janvier 2013. Entré très jeune dans l|atelier de Raphaël, Giulio Romano y assuma un rôle qui devint de plus en plus important au fil des ans. Désigné, avec Giovan Francesco Penni, héritier et exécuteur testamentaire du maître, à la mort de celui-ci en 1520, Giulio reprit son atelier. Après avoir finalement terminé la décoration de la Salle de Constantin, au Vatican, en 1524 il céda aux prières et promesses du comte Baldassarre Castiglione, ambassadeur de Frédéric II Gonzague (1500-1540) à Rome, et accepta l|invitation du marquis de s|installer à la cour de Mantoue. Très vite, il y assuma le premier rôle concernant toutes les oeuvres d|architecture et de décoration, et on peut compter parmi ses chefs-d|oeuvre le Palazzo Te (1525-1535) et l|appartement de Troie au Palazzo Ducale (1536-1539)
