Van Dyck : a complete catalogue of the paintings by Anthony Van Dyck ( Book )
8 editions published between 2003 and 2004 in English and held by 550 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"Sir Anthony van Dyck (1599-1941): a native of Antwerp, Van Dyck also lived and worked for long periods in Italy and England, where his brief, productive life ended. He is best known for his work at the court of Charles I of England and his images of Charles and his Queens, Henrietta Maria, combine imperial tradition with a lyricism that is unique. The full-length portraits of aristocrats in the Caroline court and in Genoa, Antwerp, Brussels and The Hague set a standard for elegance, grandeur and personal insight that influenced the history of Western portraiture into the twentieth century in the work of John Singer Sargent." "Like Titian, whom he admired and whose artistic legacy he transformed and handed on, Van Dyck was as gifted with religious and mythological subjects as he was with portraits. He pioneered means of expressing personal piety and intimacy that would dominate later-seventeenth- and eighteenth-century religious art throughout Catholic Europe. In his history paintings he evolved a style which owed much to Titian but also foreshadowed the rococo painters of the eighteenth century." "This catalogue raisonne includes a reproduction of every known authentic painting by the artist, the provenance and the significant facts and literature on each."--BOOK JACKET
The young van Dyck = Le jeune van Dyck by Alan McNairn ( Book )
11 editions published between 1980 and 2013 in English and held by 416 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
"By the age of twenty-two, Anthony Van Dyck (1599-1641) had produced more than 160 paintings, many of them ambitious compositions of remarkable quality. This book presents the work created during the eight years between 1613, when he was just fourteen, to his departure for Italy from Antwerp in October 1621. Were the paintings he created during these years his only legacy, he would still be recognized as one of the greatest artists of the seventeenth century. Van Dyck's precocious talents are brilliantly demonstrated in the many important works reproduced here, among them such strikingly original masterpieces as The Taking of Christ and Saint Jerome in the Desert. Others--Christ's Entry into Jerusalem and The Lamentation, for example--reveal Van Dyck at his most experimental, in search of new ways of increasing the visual impact of his compositions. Van Dyck was also one of the first painters to rise to the challenge of Rubens's omnipresent influence, evident in works such as The Crowning with Thorns."--Publisher's website

Van Dyck in Sicily : 1624-1625, painting and the plague by Xavier F Salomon ( Book )
2 editions published in 2012 in English and held by 109 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
In the spring of 1624 the painter Anthony Van Dyck (1599 -1641) moved from Genoa to Palermo in Sicily. Soon after Van Dyck's arrival, plague struck Palermo and most of the population died. In the same year, the bones of Saint Rosalia were discovered in a cave on the Monte Pellegrino where she was said to have died as a hermit in the Middle Ages. This will be the first exhibition to focus on Van Dyck's work during this period. The exhibition takes Dulwich's own Portrait of Emanuele Filiberto as a starting point and expands into an examination of Van Dyck's activity in that year. It will also be the first time in the UK that Van Dyck's portrait of the Viceroy of Sicily from Dulwich's own collection will be seen next to the spectacular suit of armour worn by the viceroy in the portrait - still surviving in the Royal Armouries of Madrid
