Energy and technology review ( )
in English and held by 357 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The Review reports on unclassified work in programs, including research on nuclear weapons and magnetic fusion energy and technology transfer, laser science (fusion, isotope separation, materials processing), biology and biotechnology, environmental research and remediation, arms control and nonproliferation, advanced defense technology, and applied energy technology. These programs, in turn, require research in basic scientific disciplines, including chemistry and materials science, computing science and technology, engineering, and physics. Includes summary of contents of each issue and lists of all recent patents

Potential uses for a high-temperature borehole gravimeter by Joseph R Hearst ( )
4 editions published in 1978 in English and held by 199 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
It is possible to design a canister to cool a borehole gravimeter for use in geothermal and high-temperature (up to 350°C) gas wells. Repeat surveys with such a gravimeter could (1) help estimate the extent of reservoir plugging in geothermal injection well after one year of operation and (2) detect compaction of a geothermal aquifer if the change in thickness of the aquifer exceeds 1 m. The instrument could be used together with conventional logging tools to evaluate radial dependence of density around a well, or to estimate gas-filled porosity around wells drilled with mud. A high-temperature borehole gravimeter could also be used to evaluate structure and stratigraphy around geothermal and high-temperature gas wells

Civilian applications of laser fusion by Lawrence Livermore Laboratory ( Book )
4 editions published between 1977 and 1978 in English and held by 99 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The commercial aspects of laser fusion were evaluated in an attempt to relate the end products (neutrons and energy) to significant commercial applications. It was found that by far the largest markets and highest payoffs for laser fusion are associated with electric power production. Hence, much of this report evaluates the prospects of producing commercial electricity with laser fusion. To this end, we have described in detail a new and promising laser fusion concept--the liquid lithium waterfall reactor. In addition, we have taken the most attractive features from our laser studies and used them to compare laser fusion to other long-range sources of energy (breeder reactors and solar energy). It is our contention that all three sources of electrical energy should be developed to the point where the final selections are primarily based on economic competitiveness. The other potential applications of laser fusion (fissile fuel production, synthetic fuel production, actinide burning, and propulsion) are also discussed, and our preliminary plan for the engineering development of laser fusion is presented
Material control system simulator program reference manual by R. B Hollstien ( Book )
4 editions published in 1978 in English and held by 93 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
Design and assessment of the material control aspect of nuclear safeguard systems requires consideration of three types of functional elements: (1) material handling or processing, (2) actions of adversaries in their attempt to divert nuclear materials from their normal containment, and (3) components of material control and accounting and physical security systems that detect and respond to stimuli generated by the adversary actions. This paper describes a Material Control System Simulator (MCSS) program that simplifies computer simulation of safeguard systems by providing predefined functional models of these three types of elements. Specification of model systems requires only data pertaining to the performance characterization of these functional elements, so users with no prior computer simulation or programming experience can model and study the dynamic performance of safeguard systems. The paper presents an overview of MCSS and an example diversion attempt simulation that illustrates some of the features of the program
