I'm new here by Gil Scott-Heron( Recording )

"I'm new here" er Herons første album på 13 år, innspilt i New York i 2007. Heron er like nysgjerrig interessert i å svinge til venstre gjennom uutforsket musikkmark som alltid, og i hvert hjørne står en musikalsk overraskelse som gjør lyttingen interessant

One glance at Now and Then and it becomes evident that this is not merely a collection of a songwriter's lyrics. The song-poems of this undisputed "bluesologist" triumphantly stand on their own, evoking the rhythm and urgency which have distinguished Gil Scott-Heron's career. This, the first ever collection of his poems to be published in Britain, carries the reader from the global topics of political hypocrisy and the dangers posed by capitalist culture to painfully personal themes and the realities of modern day life. His message is black, political, historically accurate, urgent, uncompromising and mature and as relevant now as it was when he started, back in the early seventies

Shot entirely on location in Washington, D.C., primarily at the Wax Museum nightclub and on the streets of the city Mr. Scott-Heron long considered his home. Robert Mugge's 1982 film showcases the art, the life, and the personality of the great African American poet-singer-songwriter-author Gil Scott-Heron whom many have called the forefather of hip-hop and socially-conscious rap music, and whom UK music weekly Melody Maker once dubbed "the most dangerous musician alive." One of the first music films commissioned by Andy Park of Britain's Channel 4 Television, Black wax was also one of the first productions ever to utilize Steadicam from beginning to end, thanks to pioneering Steadicam operator Lawrence McConkey
