In this ground-breaking new volume, an essential group of 150 oils, watercolors, drawings, and prints, representative of Klee's entire career, is released to the public for the first time. These unpublished works are held in the Burgi Collection. Hanni Burgi (1880-1938) and her son Rolf (1906-1967) were intimately bound to Paul Klee and his family, and during the two and a half decades Hanni knew the artist, she built up the second largest collection of his pictures in the world: as early as 1938, it was described as "a very beautiful, full collection of [Klee's] works, which reflects the whole of his development as an artist." Rolf Burgi continued to add to it after his mother's death. It was Rolf, also, who, as the Klees' closest friend and adviser, made possible their escape from Nazi Germany in 1933, and, after Paul Klee's death, administrated his estate, saved it from liquidation, and set up the Paul Klee Foundation. Offering new art-historical insight into Klee's career-from his early Impressionist-inspired works, through his Expressionism with Kandisky and his Bauhaus period between the wars-this book contains the only reproduction of these important but little-known pieces collected by the Burgis, and will become essential to all enthusiasts of the art of Paul Klee and the modern period. The Burgi Collection represents a legacy of enduring loyalty and commitment to Paul Klee and his work that this lavishly illustrated volume handsomely honours+-+10669430364686ocn041634152book19990.47Warhol, AndyAndy Warhol photography : the Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, Hamburg KunsthalleExhibition catalogsCatalog of the exhibition from May 13, 1999-Aug. 22, 1999 in the Hamburg Kunsthalle and Nov. 6, 1999-Feb. 15, 2000, the Andy Warhol Museum, Pittsburgh, Pa+-+75681635484424ocn041252810book19990.59Rowell, MargitSigmar Polke : works on paper 1963-1974Exhibition catalogs+-+71461456353301ocn042874809book19990.66Baltic light : early open-air painting in Denmark and Northern GermanyExhibition catalogs+-+41163555853154ocn466344258book20090.66Bankowsky, JackPop life : art in a material worldHistoryExhibition catalogs"This book examines the legacy of Pop art and its most celebrated exponent in the lives and work of succeeding generations of artists"--Book jacket+-+35742890363084ocn039380622book19980.35Emotions & relations : Nan Goldin, David Armstrong, Mark Morrisroe, Jack Pierson, Philip-Lorca diCorciaExhibition catalogsA collection of the "human photographs" by the Boston School artists+-+925023773830314ocn001284240book19740.73Friedrich, Caspar DavidCaspar David Friedrich, 1774-1840 : [Ausstellung, Hamburger Kunsthalle, 14. As the artist herself points out, One is first experience of a work of art is physical. I appreciate works that have sensual as well as intellectual impact. Meanings, connotations, and associations begin to emerge only after the initial physical experience, when the imagination, the intellect, and the psyche are ignited by what one has seen. The daughter of Palestinian parents, Hatoum has long been regarded in Great Britain and the U.S. as one of the most important artists of her generation. Born in Lebanon in 1952 and a resident of London since 1975, her sensitivity to themes of power and identity has been heightened by a life lived outside her homeland. Many of her objects, video pieces, and installations deal with aspects of institutionalized violence and the vulnerability of the individual; her central point of reference is the body, in many cases her own. This is the first book to document the full breadth of Mona Hatoum's oeuvre, up to and including her most recent projects+-+39996202282633ocn000859603book19730.63Ernst, MaxInside the sight26024ocn001358057book19100.81Hamburger KunsthalleKatalog der alten Meister der Hamburger KunsthalleCatalogs2465ocn001686234book19740.73Fuseli, HenryJohann Heinrich Füssli, 1741-1825 : [Ausstellung, Hamburger Kunsthalle, 4.
