Algebra, Topology, and Category Theory: A Collection of Papers in Honor of Samuel Eilenberg is a collection of papers dealing with algebra, topology, and category theory in honor of Samuel Eilenberg. Topics covered range from large modules over artin algebras to twodimensional Poincaré duality groups, along with the homology of certain Hspaces as group ring objects. Variable quantities and variable structures in topoi are also discussed.

Comprised of 16 chapters, this book begins by looking at the relationship between the representation theories of finitely generated and large (not fi

Foundations of relative homological algebra by
Samuel Eilenberg(
Book
)
22 editions published between 1965 and 1966 in English and Italian and held by 268 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
The main notion of this paper is that of a "projective class of sequences" in an arbitrary (pointed) category. Each such class carries with it its own projective objects. One can then talk about projective resolutions, and if the category is additive, all the usual properties of the resolutions hold. In particular, this will permit the development of homological algebra in some additive categories which are not abelian, e.g., the category of comodules over a coalgebra over an arbitrary commutative ring

Proceedings of the Conference on Categorical Algebra, La Jolla, 1965 by
Samuel Eilenberg(
Book
)
25 editions published between 1956 and 1966 in 3 languages and held by 226 WorldCat member libraries worldwide
This volume contains the articles contributed to the Conference on Categorical Algebra, held June 712,1965, at the San Diego campus of the University of California under the sponsorship of the United States Air Force Office of Scientific Research. Of the thirtyseven mathemati cians, who were present seventeen presented their papers in the form of lectures. In addition, this volume contains papers contributed by other attending participants as well as by those who, after having planned to attend, were unable to do so. The editors hope to have achieved a representative, if incomplete, cover age of the present activities in Categorical Algebra within the United States by bringing together this group of mathematicians and by solici ting the articles contained in this volume. They also hope that these Proceedings indicate the trend of research in Categorical Algebra in this country. In conclusion, the editors wish to thank the participants and contrib. utors to these Proceedings for their continuous cooperation and encour agement. Our thanks are also due to the SpringerVerlag for publishing these Proceedings in a surprisingly short time after receiving the manu scripts
