Complex manifolds and deformation of complex structures by Kunihiko Kodaira( )

35 editions published between 1981 and 2012 in English and held by 1,038 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

From the reviews: "The author, who with Spencer created the theory of deformations of a complex manifold, has written a book which will be of service to all who are interested in this by now vast subject. Although intended for a reader with a certain mathematical maturity, the author begins at the beginning, [...]. This is a book of many virtues: mathematical, historical, and pedagogical. Parts of it could be used for a graduate complex manifolds course." J.A. Carlson in Mathematical Reviews, 1987 "There are many mathematicians, or even physicists, who would find this book useful and accessible, but its distinctive attribute is the insight it gives into a brilliant mathematician's work. [...] It is intriguing to sense between the lines Spencer's optimism, Kodaira's scepticism or the shadow of Grauert with his very different methods, as it is to hear of the surprises and ironies which appeared on the way. Most of all it is a piece of work which shows mathematics as lying somewhere between discovery and invention, a fact which all mathematicians know, but most inexplicably conceal in their work." N.J. Hitchin in the Bulletin of the London Mathematical Society, 1987
Complex manifolds by James A Morrow( Book )

33 editions published between 1971 and 2012 in English and Undetermined and held by 499 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book, a revision and organization of lectures given by Kodaira at Stanford University in 1965-66, is an excellent, well-written introduction to the study of abstract complex (analytic) manifolds-a subject that began in the late 1940's and early 1950's. It is largely self-contained, except for some standard results about elliptic partial differential equations, for which complete references are given.-D.C. Spencer, MathSciNet The book under review is the faithful reprint of the original edition of one of the most influential textbooks in modern complex analysis and geometry. The classic
Global analysis: papers in honor of K. Kodaira by D. C Spencer( Book )

11 editions published between 1969 and 2015 in English and held by 479 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

Global analysis describes diverse yet interrelated research areas in analysis and algebraic geometry, particularly those in which Kunihiko Kodaira made his most outstanding contributions to mathematics. The eminent contributors to this volume, from Japan, the United States, and Europe, have prepared original research papers that illustrate the progress and direction of current research in complex variables and algebraic and differential geometry. The authors investigate, among other topics, complex manifolds, vector bundles, curved 4-dimensional space, and holomorphic mappings. Bibliographies facilitate further reading in the development of the various studies. Originally published in 1970. These paperback editions preserve the original texts of these important books while presenting them in durable paperback editions. The goal of the Princeton Legacy Library is to vastly increase access to the rich scholarly heritage found in the thousands of books published by Princeton University Press since its founding in 1905

Complex analysis and algebraic geometry : a collection of papers dedicated to K. Kodaira by W. L Baily( Book )

16 editions published between 1977 and 2009 in English and held by 357 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

The articles in this volume cover some developments in complex analysis and algebraic geometry. The book is divided into three parts. Part I includes topics in the theory of algebraic surfaces and analytic surface. Part II covers topics in moduli and classification problems, as well as structure theory of certain complex manifolds. Part III is devoted to various topics in algebraic geometry analysis and arithmetic. A survey article by Ueno serves as an introduction to the general background of the subject matter of the volume. The volume was written for Kunihiko Kodaira on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, by his friends and students. Professor Kodaira was one of the world's leading mathematicians in algebraic geometry and complex manifold theory: and the contributions reflect those concerns
Complex analysis by Kunihiko Kodaira( Book )

21 editions published between 2001 and 2012 in English and held by 287 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This textbook is an introduction to the classical theory of functions of a complex variable. The author's aim is to explain the basic theory in an easy to understand and careful way. He emphasizes geometrical considerations, and, to avoid topological difficulties associated with complex analysis, begins by deriving Cauchy's integral formula in a topologically simple case and then deduces the basic properties of continuous and differentiable functions. The remainder of the book deals with conformal mappings, analytic continuation, Riemann's mapping theorem, Riemann surfaces and analytic functions on a Riemann surface. The book is profusely illustrated and includes many examples. Problems are collected together at the end of the book. It should be an ideal text for either a first course in complex analysis or more advanced study

Nevanlinna theory by Kunihiko Kodaira( )

9 editions published between 2017 and 2018 in English and held by 204 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

"This book deals with the classical theory of Nevanlinna on the value distribution of meromorphic functions of one complex variable, based on minimum prerequisites for complex manifolds. The theory was extended to several variables by S. Kobayashi, T. Ochiai, J. Carleson, and P. Griffiths in the early 1970s. K. Kodaira took up this subject in his course at The University of Tokyo in 1973 and gave an introductory account of this development in the context of his final paper, contained in this book. The first three chapters are devoted to holomorphic mappings from C to complex manifolds. In the fourth chapter, holomorphic mappings between higher dimensional manifolds are covered. The book is a valuable treatise on the Nevanlinna theory, of special interests to those who want to understand Kodaira's unique approach to basic questions on complex manifolds." -publisher

Kunihiko Kodaira's influence in mathematics has been fundamental and international, and his efforts have helped lay the foundations of modern complex analysis. These three volumes contain Kodaira's written contributions, published in a large number of journals and books between 1937 and 1971. The volumes cover chronologically the major periods of Kodaira's mathematical concentration and reflect his collaboration with other prominent theoreticians. Thus they begin with early works that discuss the application of Hilbert space methods to differential equations, and the use of elementary solutions to prove regularity theorems for strongly elliptic systems of partial differential equations. Complex Manifolds and Deformation of Complex Structures by Kunihiko Kodaira( )

2 editions published in 1986 in English and held by 55 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

This book is an introduction to the theory of complex manifolds and their deformations. Deformation of the complex structure of Riemann surfaces is an idea which goes back to Riemann who, in his famous memoir on Abelian functions published in 1857, calculated the number of effective parameters on which the deformation depends. Since the publication of Riemann's memoir, questions concerning the deformation of the complex structure of Riemann surfaces have never lost their interest. The deformation of algebraic surfaces seems to have been considered first by Max Noether in 1888 (M. Noether: Anzahl der Modulen einer Classe algebraischer Fliichen, Sitz. K6niglich. Preuss. Akad. der Wiss. zu Berlin, erster Halbband, 1888, pp. 123-127). However, the deformation of higher dimensional complex manifolds had been curiously neglected for 100 years. In 1957, exactly 100 years after Riemann's memoir, Frolicher and Nijenhuis published a paper in which they studied deformation of higher dimensional complex manifolds by a differential geometric method and obtained an important result. (A. Fr61icher and A. Nijenhuis: A theorem on stability of complex structures, Proc. Nat. Acad. Sci., U.S.A., 43 (1957), 239-241)
