Though the collector is anonymous, this catalog of some 100 works shows him (he is referred to as such in the introdugiton) to be quite a connoisseur of post-war American drawings. The 40 or so artists represented include Richard Serra, Agnes Martin, Bruce Nauman, Brice Marden, Sol LeWitt, Ellsworth Kelly, Jasper Johns, Anne Chu, Trisha Brown, Dan Flavin, and Carole Seborovski. Each drawing is nicely reproduced and is accompanied by an elucidative description (generally around 300 to 500 words). Ours is a culture defined by marketing and acquiring. Virtually every activity in our lives is experienced through purchases, from layettes to caskets. The landscape is studded with logos, brand names, and billboards. "Branded and On Display" examines the work of artists who explore specific strategies of branding and presentation in their response to this pervasively commoditized environment. Representing a range of media - sculpture, video, installation, sound, painting, and photography - the work is compelling and provocative, nudging us to "re-view" our culture with an appraising eye. There is an exhilarating range of concerns and media represented by artists Ai Weiwei, Conrad Bakker, Amy Barkow, Ashley Mickerton, Michael Blum, Louis Cameron, Diller and Scofidio, Terence Gower, Laurie Hogin, Pierre Huyghe, Clay Ketter, Ryan
Toulouse-Lautrec : artist of Montmartre by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec( Book )

6 editions published in 2001 in English and held by 167 WorldCat member libraries worldwide

In 1886, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec established a studio in Montmartre, where the Bohemian lifestyle was exactly suited to his personal temperament and his artistic needs. Coming into artistic maturity as the colored lithographic print was gaining credence and as posters were transforming the whole of Paris into an out-of-doors art exhibition, Lautrec regarded these more democratic art forms as seriously as he did his painting. The posters and prints illustrated and discussed in this volume offer a quintessential view of end of the century Montmartre at its height. In these works, Lautrec's own energies are revealed at their peak. As much as these prints and posters capture the spirit of Montmartre, they also describe Lautrec
